KV331 Audio’s SynthMaster 2 Player, a rompler with 2000 factory presets, is now available for free throughout December 2024 instead of the usual asking price of $29.
SynthMaster 2 Player is a Windows (32/64-bit) and macOS (64-bit only) release for VST, AAX, and AU (macOS only).
The instrument is also available as an AU format iOS instrument, although when I searched it up on the App Store, it was the old SynthMaster Player, not SynthMaster 2 Player.
SynthMaster 2 Player is the little bro of SynthMaster 2 ($49, reduced from $129), and presents a simplified instrument with limited editing capabilities.
The Player version is made to leverage the presets, with some editing capabilities, rather than presenting the deeper customization and sound design features of SynthMaster 2.
SynthMaster 2 Player allows users to tweak 12 parameters or “the bypass states of layer/global effects assigned for each preset by the sound designer.”
You can link these parameters to MIDI controllers with the MIDI Learn feature.
The plugin also offers micro-tuning via Scala tuning support, so you can edit the tuning on each preset or edit it globally with a Scala tuning file.
It’s easy to get around the 2000 presets with the preset browser, which offers different search criteria for instrument type, preset author, preset attributes, and music style.
KV331 Audio has provided two skins with different color variations, and you can open up the interface editor if you want to customize the skins or create your own custom interfaces.
There’s a big old list of audio demos featured on a SoundCloud player embedded on the product page for the synth.
The demos do a great job of showing off the factory sounds available from the instrument, and there are certainly a lot of different tones on tap that cover a range of genres and moods.
Note that there is the regular SynthMaster 2 Player ($29, now free) and a permanently free version with only 550 factory presets.
Currently, users can get the $29 Player version for free for either Windows or macOS via a single click from the product page, and we always dig a simple download process like that here on BPB.
We all know bedroom producers can never have enough synths in their toolbox, so this is certainly a welcome early Xmas gift from the fine folks at KV331 Audio.

onThanks for the headsup, Stephen. However, it is NOT a simple one-click download. They ask for email, name, address since you have go through their shopping cart.
Stephen Charlton
onCheers. It is indeed a one-click download. Click on the Windows or macOS icons in the green box at the top right of the product page, and in one click you will get a Zip file for your OS of choice. I did it myself just now.
Peter L
onStephen, you are completely correct! Thank you for clarifying. The button “get it now” was just too suggestive for me
Paramita
onNOT SURE what the difference is BUT downloading straight from the windows button is a 360MB file whereas after registering is a 728MB file. Me thinks no registration gets you the free player with 550 presets and with gets you the 2000 presets. to be checked.
Paramita
onIf interested I would DEFINITELY recommend to go through the registration route.
WHY? Because it sets you as a registered user, if they change the free policy and you need to reinstall later. much easier.
PLUS it gives you a cheaper upgrade path to the Pro version, which I am considering, as it is not expensive and really has tons of great sounds and great features.
Yom
onno the windows mac icon is for the free player, the “get it now” is for the full version with 2000 presets

onGasp! Oh no! They ask for a little bit of information! The horror!

onOne important thing to note, there is no way of saving edited parameters to an existing or new preset. Just can’t be done. Recording as audio is the only option.
Rave Sbor
onI think in Reaper it is possible to save presets. But I haven’t tried yet on this particular instrument.
Rave Sbor
onYep, I’ve just checked and can confirm: It’s possible to save presets with your tweaks through the preset savings dialog in Reaper. You can also export VST3 presets and reload them later on with ease.

onThe plugin’s sole reason for existing is to showcase a load of presets from its commercial big brother so, yes, of course there are limitations.
Anyone is free to simply pass on this software and move along with the greatest of ease. However, I will say that there’s some good patches in the mix so it just might be worth a download.
Ho Ho Ho! Murray Crispness!

onIt is also worth mentioning that the plugin takes up over 1 GB of disk space.

onI have had Synthmaster Player for many years, and I love it. Yes, it is free. Yes, you need to register first. Yes, you get 2000 presets to play with. Yes, it is about 1 gigabyte of disk space. You cannot create presets, but you can tweak a few parameters. There are several free soundbanks (use Google to find them) that you can install. Highly recommended.
Tianzii
onWait what? I thought that only non-player version can have extra custom presets while the player version works only with the official ones.
Can you list a few of them here? Thanks!
Marcel
onHmm. There is an option in SynthMaster Player to import preset banks as zip files, but I can’t seem to find any free banks … I have several official banks from KV331. I tried importing Synthmaster2 banks, but they don’t seem to work. Sorry about that.

onHow can you tell if you have bought the free version or the paid version (limited time free) of SynthMaster Player 2?
