We’re a few days past Christmas now, but there are still some gifts left unopened for some of you as Audio Assault offers their Xmas extreme vintage amp for free.
Audio Assault dropped a new vintage guitar amp sim as part of their Amp Locker lineup, and it’s absolutely free.
There is a pay-what-you-want option, and if you’ve gained from Audio Assault in the past, you might want to show some love in the form of a small donation.
The Xmas extreme vintage amp requires the Amp Locker, which you can download for free.
Amp Locker, if you don’t know, is a collection of amp sims, pedals, cabs, and room types. Many emulations are paid products, but Amp Locker comes with some free stuff to get you started, like the Prestige 1959 British-style hot-rodded amp, seven FX pedals, and eleven cabs.
The Xmas amp blends versatility and simplicity in an amp that provides drastically different results with minimal effort.
With just three controls, Gain, Tone, and Volume, you can cover a lot of ground, from British Vox-like sounds to face-melting metal.
Even with the Vox-like territory, we have a lot of iconic tones to explore, whether it’s jangly pop rock or much crunchier blues.
One of the things that I like most about the Xmas amp sim is that it sounds well-aged. It’s not just a vintage sound; it sounds like an amp that has lived a hard life, and, as with any vintage gear, there’s a charming character that comes from imperfection.
The amp features genre-specific presets with multiple variations, including blues, jazz, and metal.
You can also alter the tone by adding effects before and after the amplifier in your Amp Locker chain.
If you’re like me, and the most appropriate action for your guitar playing is a mute button, you might want to check out Bass Locker (also free). Bass Locker is the bass version of Amp Locker, and it comes with the free BassTR bass amp sim.
Amp Locker is available in AU, VST3, and AAX formats for macOS, Windows, and Linux.
Thanks to Audio Assault for the Xmas gift!
