Dark Side of the Tune has released Volca Sleaze, a free collection of samples captured from the Volca Keys compact analogue synthesizer by Korg.
We took the Volca and ran it through multiple analog filters, LFOs for texture, multiple gain-staging, and parallel ring modulation for a gritty spatial tone. To take it even further, we focused mainly on drum sounds. Yes, drum sounds. But, never fear there are filthy sound effects, bass, and keys too.
Volca Sleaze is available for free download via SoundCloud (21.5 MB download size, ZIP archive, contains 42 audio samples in 16-bit & 24-bit WAV format).
The samples are hosted on Google Drive, meaning that you can browse the folder and individually download the required samples. If you’d like to download all 42 samples in a single ZIP archive, choose File >> Download from the menu.
Volca Sleaze features an interesting set of drum and SFX sounds recorded from the Volca Keys synthesizer. The output signal was passed through various analog filters and other effect such as ring modulation, resulting in unusual and quirky drum sounds suitable for building glitched out drum loops. The pack also includes a small selection of classic analog bass and lead sounds.
On a related note, Dark Side of the Tune has recently released another free sample pack based on the DX200 synthesizer by Yamaha. The pack is called DX FM and features a collection of 39 sounds which were captured with minimal extra processing in order to retain the original character of the sampled instrument.
