Pettinhouse has just released DirectGuitar Mute&Slap, a completely free guitar sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt. They have also launched a huge sale on all of their commercial products, which will end at 2 PM Rome GMT.
Mute&Slap is a free to use library which comes from DirectGuitar 3.’0 FULL version. It is made for playing muted guitar grooves. You can combine muted passages with slapped notes just by playing harder on your keyboard in order to introduce a slapped note.
The free DirectGuitar Mute&Slap sample collection features some great sounding multi-samples of an electric guitar, including muted and slapped articulations. Basically, muted tones are triggered at normal velocities, while the slapped notes are triggered at higher velocity values. This results in a very expressive playing experience, perfectly suited for jamming and coming up with guitar riffs on the fly.

From my experience with Pettinhouse freebies, these are fantastic free instruments which work great for guitar backing tracks and even lead melodies. That’s also the case with the latest Mute&Slap freebie which is very easy to use and incredibly fun to play. The interface features an FX section with wah wah and phaser effects, a delay module, as well as a reverb effect. If you’d like to use your own guitar amp and cabinet simulator to process the sound of this virtual instrument, simply hit the Dry switch on the interface to turn off the included virtual guitar amplifier.
The instrument was designed for use in NI Kontakt 2 and above, however the good news is that pack also includes individual WAV files. What this means is that you can use this samples in pretty much any sampler out there. It will definitely take some time to make the proper mappings for such a large sample pack, though.
