FrozenPlain has announced that they’ve released an updated version of their Victorian Music Box sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt 5, adding a new GUI and nine additional presets to this lovely free music box instrument.
It’s been quite a while since release, but I have just finished an update for the free Victorian Music Box for Kontakt 5. The UI has been completely reworked and there are now 9 presets that explore the more ambient sounds you can make with it.
The library features 4 round robin layers for each sampled note, adding a lot to the overall realism of the instrument. You can take things even further realism-wise, by randomizing the note start position using the provided slider on the main interface.
The overall tone of included samples is very rich and warm, as the sampling job was obviously done with a lot of care. The pack also includes 21 impulse responses of rather unusual reverbs, which can lead to some beautiful atmospheric sounds when applied to the dry music box samples.
The NI Kontakt interface is organized into two separate tabs. The main interface features basic EQ, envelope and reverb mix controls. The second panel allows the user to go in depth with the tweaking of built-in effects, with detailed controls for the reverb, delay, distortion, and rotary speaker effect modules.
The updated version of the instrument features a completely refurbished GUI with nicer graphics and nine completely new instrument patches. The new patches were designed with ambient sounds in mind, although they’ll also work rather well in experimental music and soundtrack composition.

You’ll need the full version of NI Kontakt 5 in order to use this sample library. It will work for 15 minutes only in the free Kontakt Player, after which you’ll need to restart your host application to re-enable playback.
