Lux Nox have released a free set of samples from their premium quality PERC+ percussion sample library, offering the full product on a pay what you want bases (all proceeds got to Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation).
The free version of the library is over 3 GB in size. It contains a huge selection of high quality percussion samples which have been hand picked from the full version of the product. The freebie contains 10 instrument patches, consisting of 1.345 individual samples. I’ve contacted Lux Nox in order to check whether or not the samples from the freebie pack are also royalty free and they’ve confirmed that the sounds from the free sounds can be used in commercial music projects.
However, please note that the full version of the product is available on a pay what you want basis (you can enter any amount as the price) and that all the funds go directly to the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation, which aims to keep music alive in schools. Essentially, you can support future generations of musicians and still get a huge pack of high quality percussion sounds.
I still haven’t tested the library, however the demo video (embedded below) shows that this is indeed a high quality product. It honestly seems to be one of the best affordable percussion packs around.
The only real drawback of PERC+ is that it’s available in Kontakt format only, which really limits its potential audience. Who knows, perhaps Lux Nox is planning to release a SFZ version of the library in a future update, as Ivy Audio recently did with Piano in 162.
