Sir Jordanius has announced the release of The Sir J Sessions Vol. 0, a brilliant free collection of vocal phrases, funky loops and various one shot sounds played on a trumpet, bass guitar, electric guitar, etc.
I love it when a free sample pack such as this one comes out of nowhere. Sir Jordanius posted this one on Reddit, mostly just for fun, however it turns out that it’s one of the coolest free sound libraries we’ve seen in a while. It’s packed to the gills with great sounding brass hits, bass riffs, processed vocals and tons of other funky stuff which would fit great in many different music styles. I can easily imagine these being used in a hip hop banger, a funky house tune, or anywhere in between.
The pack contains 222 audio samples in total and they’re sorted into 13 different categories. The way in which the samples are organized is quite unusual (they’re not grouped into folders by instrument type, but rather the “style” of sound), so for example the Blaow folder contains vocals, bass sounds, guitars and brass which all play something that sounds like “Blaow!”. That sounds silly, I know, and it’s a bit hard to explain properly, but it’s pretty cool. You’ll see for yourself!
All of the sounds are provided in 16-bit WAV format and they’re completely free to use (both in non-commercial and commercial projects). It would be great if the pack also contained some instrument mappings (perhaps in SFZ format, that would be great), but this might as well happen in future releases. Also, Sir J has announced that one of the future releases will be mostly dedicated to loops, which is pretty neat!
This seems to be the first release in what might become a very interesting series of free sample packs by Sir Jordanius. I’d definitely love to see more stuff like this!
