Mangling Audio is the latest free sound library coming from 99Sounds, featuring a diverse collection of raw glitch sound effects which have been masterfully crafted and processed by Pierre Collie aka Poztman.
The author of the library is also the winner of the first music making contest organized by 99Sounds. The contest was announced back in October last year (along with the release of a free drum sample collection), offering over $1100 in software and soundware prizes. Poztman was voted as the winner by the judges, taking the main prize in the contest with his fantastic tune Crystalline Chant.
The Ableton Live project file for the winning track can be downloaded for free from the contest page, kindly provided by Poztman for everyone interested in checking out the techniques which were used to create the winning track. The main rule of the contest was to create an entire track using only the samples and loops which are available for download on 99Sounds, meaning that the entrants had to re-imagine their music making workflow and find creative workarounds for this limitation.
With the release of Poztman’s first free sample library labeled Mangling Audio, we can now take an even closer look at the techniques and types of sounds which this talented sound designer and artist uses in his tracks. Mangling audio is a huge resource of glitched out samples and loops, featuring over 500 MB of audio material in 24-bit WAV format.
Poztman has used various creative sound design techniques for creating this unique sound library, including (but not limited to) audio databending, raw data processing, extreme pitch-shifting, convolution and re-sampling, among others. The included sounds are a perfect fit for genres like glitch hop, but they will also be a great addition to any audio or video project which could benefit from some creative glitch sound effects and electronic noises.
The library also includes a set of NKI patches for Native Instruments Kontakt 5, making it very easy to load up the included drum samples and other percussive hits which are mapped across the keyboard. In addition to the percussive one shots and glitch SFX, Mangling Audio also features a selection of processed vocals and a library of musical and percussive loops.
