Free EXE File Glitch Sample Pack Released By Avie Sunner

Avie Sunner has released Elizabeth’s Glitch Pack Vol 1, a free glitch sample library made from video game EXE files.

OK, so playing video games is nothing new (btw, if you know of any really good games on Android or Steam, please recommend them in the comments section below – I’ve really been struggling lately to find anything that will help me procrastinate more efficiently). Using video game samples in music tracks is nothing new, either. However, using a video game as a sample (as in, the program itself) in a DAW is certainly not a common technique.

Well, Avie Sunner’s new sample pack will let you do just that. It contains a set of glitch sounds and digital noises that were crafted from video game EXE files. If you’re wondering what on earth an EXE file sounds like, well it’s somewhat similar to the sounds made by old dial-up modems while establishing a connection. You know, that old noisy modem sequence we all used to hate, but now feel kind of nostalgic about it. Well, the glitch samples in Elizabeth’s Glitch Pack Vol 1 are somewhat similar to that, although definitely harsher sounding.

The included samples are provided in 16-bit WAV format and they are categorized into longer recordings (the “Dry Samples folder), one shot samples (the “Instruments” folder) and drones (the “Reverb” folder). All included sounds have been normalized to -6 dB, however the author’s advice is to turn down your speakers anyway, because some of the samples are still quite loud (speaking of which, here’s a nice set of Bluetooth studio monitors if you’re looking to upgrade your current setup). The pack contains 87 samples in total, along with a text file which explains the techniques that were used to create this sound library.

Elizabeth’s Glitch Pack Vol 1 is available for free download via SoundCloud (222 MB download size, ZIP archive, contains 87 audio samples in 16-bit WAV format).

oh, and by the way !!!
maybe in a few months i’ll release a new one
this time with NES games and the (i think it was vinesauce ?) real-time corrupter
      that should be fun

  2. Thank you for your free sample pack, Elisabeth. I always love to listen these types of sounds even though I don’t necessarily know what to do with them on my own music.

I have to comment one of the sounds: JumpJetRex_4 = really fat sound that reminds me of a puls width modulation. I’ve actually encountered similar sounds when experimenting with various exe files myself. That sound would make an amazing wavetable.
