Wilkinson Audio has announced that their ZomBass 4 sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt (WAV samples included) is available for free download until July 1st this year ($25 value).

ZomBass 4 is an electric bass sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt featuring the sounds of the Warwick 5 String Corvette $$ 5-string bass guitar. The library features eight different articulations (regular picking, muted, harmonics, fret noise, slide up, slide down, “bow-wow” up/down slide, fret noise) and offers a variety of tools for adding realism to your MIDI performance. Wilkinson Audio has also posted a video which shows some of the recommended techniques for creating a realistic performance using ZomBass 4.

The user interface is very simple and only shows the list of available articulations and their corresponding note velocity values, along with a knob for fine-tuning the intelligent alternative picking mode. The whole idea behind ZomBass 4 is to offer a way to quickly build performances by relying on note velocity instead of keyswitches (which tend to make the process slower).

The sampled Warwick 5 String Corvette $$ uses D’Addario Nickel Wound strings and was recorded from A0 up to E4 (Drop A tuning). It is also possible to hit lower notes by pitch shifting and perform custom bends using the pitch wheel on your MIDI keyboard.

The library is normally priced at $25 but Wilkinson Audio is offering it as a completely free download from their website until July 1st. Please note the full version of NI Kontakt is required in order to use ZomBass 4 without the 15-minute time limit. It’s worth noting that the download pack also contains the WAV files which can be used in virtually any sampler instrument.

ZomBass 4 is available for free download via Wilkinson Audio (302 MB download size, ZIP archive, contains 541 audio samples in 24-bit WAV format, 1 instrument patch in NKI format for NI Kontakt 4/5).
