The New Hybrid Rhythms was launched in 2017 as an updated version of 8Dio’s original ‘Hybrid Rhythms.’ And now, you can get this sweet Kontakt library for free! It’s a part of their ongoing Christmas promotion.
The New Hybrid Rhythms comes with 950 samples that span a massive range of grooves, perfect for cinematic compositions. The grooves are recorded at 80, 90, 100, 110, 120, 130, and 140 BPM, so you have a full range of tempos to fit your song.
You also get stem files for the grooves, so you can mix and match them to your taste. And there are more than 40 custom convolution reverbs and impulses you can apply.
One of the best and most valuable features 8Dio has included is their CHAOS FX engine. This allows you to instantly stack, randomize, reverse, or ‘chaos’ several hundred parameters at once. It’s a quick gateway to new sounds and experimentation, with the possibility of adjusting 1,500 parameters in one click.
You also have a range of onboard FX here – an ARP sequencer, Delay, Degrader (Bit Crusher), EQ, Filter, and two different types of convolution reverbs (which includes a Transform effect). Here’s a quick video of this instrument’s potential:
8Dio has also included some advanced tempo-sync options that allow you to combine over 10 different groove fragments together while maintaining the tempo, so there’s no fuss over manually adjusting the grooves to fit the track.
Note that you need the full version of Kontakt 5.5 or higher to run this instrument (no compatibility with Kontakt Player, unfortunately). Once unpacked, it’ll use 1.3 GB of space. Also, 8Dio generally recommends using their download manager to install the library, but you can download it manually and extract it to any folder.
8Dio also has a range of other free instruments on their site, including a ‘Post-Apocalyptic Guitar’ and a ‘Glass Marimba’ that are worth checking out.
The New Hybrid Rhythms is a powerful instrument that’s perfect for adding groove to any song or cinematic track. There’s a lot of depth here, and when you’re getting a two-hundred-dollar product for free, it’s absolutely worth a try.
