Cinematrix is a trailer-scoring library from Rigid Audio that previously would have cost you around $99 but is now FREE!
Now, the action-packed, loop-based Kontakt library is available to download for free, but it requires the full version of Kontakt 5.8.1 or higher.
If you don’t have the full version of Kontakt, you might want to check out the Blueprint: Drum Kit by Fracture Sounds. The drum kit runs in the free Kontakt Player, as do the other Blueprint series titles (Epic Grand is one of my recent favorites).
Cinematrix is the second of Rigid Audio’s loop-based instruments to become available for free over the last month. Around mid-August, we got Synferno, another cinematic library that could join Cinematrix as the start of a nice cinematic toolkit.
If you tried Synferno, you’d feel at home with Cinematrix because the format is the same.
The numbers are pretty similar, too; Cinematrix offers an impressive 1300 24-bit WAV loops, making up 350 kits across four categories: Bass, Ambient, Melody, and Groove.
Cinematrix uses the same color-coded system as Synferno. Each category is color-coded across the keyboard, and you can play up to four loops simultaneously and polyphonically time-stretched over two octaves.
Again, like Synferno, as nice as the sounds are, it’s about making them your own, and we can do that through the Edit and FX pages.
The Edit page allows you to adjust various parameters, like the loop speed (per-part half/normal/double/freeze). The per-part speed settings make it easy to create different textures and elements of dissonance that are so crucial in cinematic scoring.
You can also access a Filter Modifier, Amp/Filter Envelope control, Saturation, Solid Bus Compressor, Stereo Width control, and more.
Additionaly, You can personalize your sounds further with a decent selection of built-in effects via the FX page. Built-in effects include Autopan, Flanger, Space Reverb, Delay, Step Filter/Gate, Degrade, and Skreamer.
One of the best things about Rigid Audio’s loop-based libraries is the onboard sequencer that allows you to slice, arrange, and trigger loops in many ways.
I don’t know if we will see more of Rigid Audio’s loop-based instruments joining the freebie ranks, but Cinematrix and Synferno are certainly welcome additions.
