LuSH 2 is a revamped version of d16’s LuSH-101 softsynth, which is over a decade old.
LuSH-101 was based on the Roland SH-101, an analog synth very popular in EDM and house music in the 1990s.
While based on the original plugin, LuSH 2 adds many modern features like layering, and more.
LuSH 2 is capable of 8 fully independent layers, “each with its own polyphony, parameters, arpeggiator, and insert effects.”
This opens the door for tons of sound design and synthesis possibilities. Let’s look at an example with a beautiful ambient demo from d16 themselves.
That’s only one example of LuSH’s versatility and nuances. You can quickly create a massive soundscape with a different sound in each layer.
LuSH can save you the headache of using multiple instances of the same synth for a layered sound. There’s no need for confusing MIDI routing.
Each layer provides an oscillator that can blend between pulse, saw, sub, and noise signals. That is followed by the filter, which you can modulate with 2 envelopes, 2 LFOs, or keytracking.
You can also use the modulators for controlling pulse width, pitch, and the VCA. The LFOs can also modulate the envelope reset points, which can lead to interesting results.
You can also use various other modulators: velocity, aftertouch, expression pedal, mod wheel, and the arpeggiator.
And speaking of it, each layer comes with a powerful 16-step arpeggiator, 2 insert FX, and fine-tuning.
There’s a handy mod matrix as well which is always a neat feature to have on a soft synth.
After you’ve dialed in the sound for each of the layers, you can blend them in the mixer module. Dial in reverb, delay and chorus for each layer separately, or even do multi-out routing with the layers. Very cool!
Last but not least, LuSH 2 comes with a whopping 1600 presets. They are categorized by sound type, which is great for finding what you need more efficiently.
