IVH Audio, a plugin developer based out of Japan, has a brand new free release that we’ll look at today – e::Pi and e::Pi Lite.
He had previously released a free “supercollider version” of the classic Roland TR-808 drum machine called SC-808, which we covered on BPB in 2020.
Back then, the plugin was released under the name Yoshinosuke Horiuchi, but now, he has launched the brand IVH Audio, and we’ll look at their first product today.
Meet, e::Pi and e:Pi Lite, a fuzz/distortion plugin inspired by the legendary Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi.
The Big Muff comes in many shapes and sizes and is highly regarded as one of the most well-known guitar pedals ever.
And it’s been used by the likes of Jimi Hendrix, David Gilmour, Jack White, and many more great guitarists through the years.
IVH Audio’s e::Pi includes 5 famous models of the Big Muff Pi across its history, which they’ve been able to create using “high-quality analog modeling technology.”
The 5 models in e::Pi are Big Apple, Raging Bull, Square, Soviet Green, and White Army.
On the other hand, e::Pi Lite (aka the free version) has only the Big Apple model.
While each model has a slightly different flavour of its own, they all feature the same controls, which is nice for learning how the plugin works.
The GUI stays faithful to the Big Muff design, with 3 main knobs for Volume, Tone, and Sustain. But it also adds some more functionality.
You can actually choose between different “Vintage” and “Modern” circuits for the “Tone” and “Sustain” controls individually.
You can also bypass these two controls if you like, or even combine the Tone and Sustain of the different models (in the full version of e::Pi)
The Mod I and Mod II settings let you choose between clipping processed before the tone circuit or vice versa. And finally, you can optimize the plugin performance if need be.
If you’re interested in the full version of e::Pi, it normally sells for $39. But it’s discounted to the special intro price of $19 until the end of 2024.
And if you’re quick enough, you can grab it for only $9 until December 25. Keep in mind though, that this offer is only available to the first 500 customers.
Use the coupon codes provided on the e::Pi page to take advantage of the discounts.
e::Pi Lite is available as a VST3, AU, and AAX plugin for Windows and macOS.
Check out the deal: e::Pi Lite (FREE / Full version only $9 until December 25th)

onAlways worth a try – you never know what you might like! I have Blue Cat Axiom, but really BYOD https://bedroomproducersblog.com/2022/03/11/byod-chowdhury-dsp/ is all I need for this. It takes an afternoon to explore, but I consider that a feature!

onIn case anyone’s wondering, as of right now, I was able to buy it for just $9. The full version with all models. So it hasn’t sold upwards of 500 yet. But maybe act fast if it sounds really cool to you.

onFuse Audio Labs Big-Sur is a really good sounding pedal and also have an option to bypass the tone stack. I’m not saying e:Pi Lite is not good or something – I still haven’t tried it, but it seems that Big-Sur is highly underrated and almost forgotten, so I just wanted to draw some attention to it. Nembrini Audio Big Stuff is just as good. Quite different, though (that’s a good thing). Those are the two I use.
