Pubbas has released Vallhund, a free binaural panning plugin for Windows and macOS.
We previously featured Pubbas’ Sheepadoodle Phaser, and to be honest, I’ve used it way more than expected since then. It earned a regular spot in my cinematic sound design toolkit, so I’m thrilled to see another creative effect drop from the same developer.
And once again, it’s a freebie.
Vallhund carries the same quirky charm as Sheepadoodle. Its cheerful pink interface is a refreshing change of pace from the moody dark themes that dominate most DAWs and plugins we’ve covered lately.
It’s fun, clean, and easy on the eyes despite the lively color. And by the way, the GUI might look playful, but Vallhund is no toy. There’s lots of firepower here for some serious spatial audio and immersive mixing.
One of my favorite things about Vallhund is the control scheme. Instead of simple labels, the controls also have icons, and they make the GUI feel more intuitive.

Under the hood, Vallhund gives you detailed control over the psychoacoustic cues our brains use to locate sound. That includes subtle timing differences (latency), volume shifts between channels, and filtering based on head-related transfer functions (HRTFs).
You can push these elements gently for realism or crank them for a more exaggerated, creative stereo effect.
The Direction control lets you virtually place a sound anywhere across the stereo field. The Latency knob is essentially a Haas effect control. It’s very effective, but something to handle with care if you’re mixing for mono playback.
Volume offsets further support the directional placement, while the Filter control lets you tweak the HRTF strength to taste, shaping the tone of your panned sound.
It’s rare to get this level of spatial manipulation in a free plugin, especially one that doesn’t even ask for your email. You can grab Vallhund directly from the Pubbas website. There’s no need to sign up or activate the plugin.
If you’re into sound design, binaural mixing, or just enjoy plugins with a fun visual twist, this one’s definitely worth a spin.
Vallhund is available in VST3 and AU formats for both Windows and macOS. Also, the macOS installer is just 8 MB, so it’s lightweight and quick to install.
