Pubbas has released Sheepadoodle Phaser, a free phaser plugin for Windows and macOS.
Sheepadoodle Phaser is available in VST3 and AU formats. It combines vintage-style phasing with a couple of clever modern twists like modulated distortion and filter adjustment. These additions make it a more versatile utility for sound design than I’d expect from a typical phaser.
Let’s start with the interface: it’s an absolute summer vibe. The light blue theme, combined with animated waveforms and quirky icons, gives it a sunny, almost seaside feel.
It’s perfectly timed for those of us trying to make music while experiencing a heatwave in a busy city (it’s over 37 degrees Celsius here in Belgrade right now). Of course, nothing beats heading to the beach for real, but at least this interface nails the vibe. It’s a fun and seaside-y look, yet also intuitive and easy to use.
In terms of features, Sheepadoodle Phaser delivers what you’d expect from a phaser, with a few unique touches that help it stand out. You’ve got classic controls like rate, depth, feedback, and stereo spread, all grouped together on the left side of the interface.

But Pubbas went a step further by adding a modulated distortion module that tracks the phaser’s notch movement. This adds a lot of bite and harmonic movement to the sound.
The “Anger” and “Spray” parameters let you shape that distortion with more precision. I found this especially useful for pushing synths and guitars into more aggressive territory. You can keep it subtle or go wild with modulated distortion depending on your project.
Another nice addition is the real-time spectral visualization. It’s not just eye candy. I like how it actually helps understand how the phaser is shaping the sound. If you’re using Sheepadoodle for more specific sound design tasks, that kind of visual feedback can help with understanding how to tweak the parameters.
I love how this one can work as a classic vintage phaser, but also get pushed into more experimental territory thanks to these added features. Whether you want that familiar sweeping whoosh or something more gnarly and distorted, Sheepadoodle handles it all with style.
The download process is simple, just like BPB readers like it. Click the download button, and it automatically grabs the correct installer for your system. No registration, no activation. Just install and go.
This is the second free plugin from Pubbas (their first was a binaural panner called Valhund), and they’re quickly becoming a developer worth watching.
Sheepadoodle Phaser is compatible with Windows and macOS in VST3 and AU formats. It’s free to download now from the Pubbas website.
