99Sounds has released Halloween Sounds, a free sample-based virtual instrument designed as a fun little Halloween gift for producers and sound designers.
I created this plugin as a small Halloween gift (and to celebrate my 40th birthday, which is on October 31st) for BPB and 99Sounds, providing everyone with an easy way to explore some of our creepiest and most cinematic sounds directly in their DAW.
Instead of dragging individual WAVs from our sample packs into your sampler or DAW, you can just load Halloween Sounds, hit a few keys, and instantly trigger over 100 spooky sounds.
There’s a little bit of everything in this one, from spooky screams and creature growls to metallic hits, cinematic impacts, tension builders, and eerie string stabs.

The samples come from several 99Sounds libraries, including Halloween Sound Effects, Jumpscare Sound Effects, The Warehouse, and Cinematic Sounds.
It’s basically a mashup of my favorite horror sounds, and everything included is completely royalty-free and ready to use in your next scary score, Halloween-inspired beat, or creepy ambient track.
Each sound is mapped to a different key, so you can just load the plugin, start playing, and see what horrors await. It’s a fun little inspiration starter, especially if you’re working on a spooky-themed project this week.
The interface is intentionally simple. You’ll find a handful of built-in effects—delay, reverb, chorus, distortion, a high-pass filter, and pitch modulation. These are there just to help you shape your sounds quickly without getting lost in menus.
The goal wasn’t to create the most powerful rompler ever, but something that gets you playing and creating scary textures quickly.
Installation is straightforward: just make sure to place the VST3 plugin file and the instrument folder in the same directory on your drive so your DAW can find the samples properly.
Halloween Sounds is available as a free VST3 plugin for Windows and macOS, and like all 99Sounds releases, it’s completely royalty-free for personal and commercial use.
If you’re in the mood to make some spooky tunes this Halloween, grab the download from 99Sounds and start jamming. And since we’re celebrating Halloween, let me know in the comments—what’s your favorite horror or Halloween movie?
