Ivory is a web-based AI transcription tool designed for composers, arrangers, and pianists who want to turn piano performances into usable digital files without spending hours writing everything out by hand.
The basic idea is that you upload a piano recording, and Ivory converts the audio into editable MIDI and readable sheet music.
Ivory supports MP3, WAV, MP4, and MIDI files up to 15MB, and the output can be exported as MIDI, MusicXML, or PDF, depending on whether you want to continue working in a DAW or move over to notation software.
However, what I find more interesting about Ivory than a basic audio-to-MIDI converter is that it is built as a MIDI workspace. It’s not just a one-click utility.
After transcription, you can check the result in an interactive piano roll and score editor, adjust notes directly in the browser, transpose the piece, loop sections, slow the tempo down, and inspect note timing and velocity in more detail.
The app also handles hand separation, chord detection, and smart quantization to make the resulting notation easier to read.
Ivory is focused specifically on polyphonic piano transcription. According to the team, the system is trained to analyze full piano performances, detect note onsets and offsets, separate left- and right-hand parts, and structure the results into a more legible score.
If the AI gets something slightly wrong, you can fix it manually before exporting, which is probably the right way to approach tools like this in practice.
There is also more functionality on the way for production workflows. Ivory says DAW integration is coming soon, with planned support for Logic Pro, Ableton Live, FL Studio, Cubase, and Reaper. The idea is to let users capture audio-to-MIDI directly inside a project rather than bouncing between browser tabs and separate apps.
The free tier lets you transcribe up to 100 recordings per month, with a 45-second limit per transcription. Paid plans remove that short preview-style restriction and allow up to 100 full-song transcriptions per month, starting at €8.99 monthly or €59 yearly.
