Overload Audio has made MOODYSIX free, a six-voice analog-style synth modeled on the 1981 Korg Polysix.
MOODYSIX was originally a $6 release (a dollar per voice, as developer Andy Morrison put it), but he just informed me that the price has been dropped to free on Gumroad.
It’s a pay-what-you-want listing, so enter $0 at checkout if you want it for nothing. If you like the free plugin, please consider supporting the developer’s work with a donation. Indie developers need all the support we can provide.
This is the same developer behind the EchoDude BBD150 we covered a while back, so if you liked that one, you probably know what to expect in terms of sound quality and attention to detail.
MOODYSIX is built around one oscillator per voice with saw, pulse, and PWM waveforms, plus a sub oscillator (one or two octaves down) and the SSM2044-style 4-pole lowpass filter that defines the Polysix sound. It also recreates the famous chorus, phaser, and ensemble effects section, which is modeled on a triple BBD circuit.

The cool twist here is that Morrison didn’t stop at the stock Polysix. He’s added three of the classic hardware mods that Polysix owners used to install back in the day.
NoisySix adds white and pink noise generators and an extended MG (LFO) with triangle, saw up, saw down, square, sample & hold, and noise shapes.
Polysex brings pitch envelope modulation with polarity and reference controls, plus voice pitch spread for thick detuned sounds.
ModyPoly adds smooth portamento that works properly across all voice modes, including unison.
For free Korg-style polyphonic analog sounds, my go-to has been Full Bucket Music’s Mono/Fury, which is technically a Korg Mono/Poly emulation rather than a Polysix, so it’s a different instrument. But I really like MOODYSIX, and I’ll be putting it in regular rotation from now on.
True to the original, the synth doesn’t respond to velocity and is locked to six voices. You also get poly, 2-voice unison, 3-voice unison, and 6-voice mono modes, an arpeggiator with up/down/up-down patterns, latch, hold and chord memory, and 32 factory presets.
The oscillators even warm up into tune when you load the plugin, which is a nice little touch (I’m not sure if it reacts to room temperature, though).
MOODYSIX is available as a free VST3 plugin for Windows and as VST3 and AU for macOS.
