SoundRave is offering ThermVoltGe, a germanium overdrive plugin for macOS and Windows, as a free download for a limited time.

I like using guitar-oriented plugins like this one on synths. Many lead synth patches I make have at least a bit of guitar distortion added on top for extra bite, and ThermVoltGe is a good option for that kind of job.
The plugin is designed to recreate the compressed sound of germanium overdrive pedals. It models OA91-style germanium diode clipping, battery sag, temperature drift, and supply voltage behavior using SoundRave’s Patina DSP.
What makes it interesting for me is that it is not just a simple drive knob. You can tweak the Battery Sag and Voltage controls to change how the virtual circuit behaves, then use the Temperature control to shift the germanium response.
There is also an Inst / Line switch. Line mode applies a -20 dB analog-style pad, which SoundRave says recreates the compression and saturation behavior of line-level inputs.
The Boost switch adds a +20 dB vintage booster-style gain stage, while the high-pass filter helps tighten the low end before things get too messy. You also get a Tone control for basic analog-style shaping.
That should make ThermVoltGe useful for a lot more than just guitars. SoundRave suggests using it on electric guitar, synth bass, keyboards, and vocals, and I can definitely see it working on synth leads that need some stompbox-style grit without losing all their shape.
The plugin also supports 2x and 4x oversampling and is described as low CPU. SoundRave recently reactivated the free codes after the first batch reached its limit, so the download is available again at the time of writing.
ThermVoltGe is available in AU and VST3 formats for macOS (Intel and Apple Silicon) and in VST3 format for Windows 10/11.
