Oscillicious has released a free beta version of SongStarter, a music creation and songwriting tool based on a live looping workflow.
With a workflow based on live looping, you can quickly layer up loops using built-in instruments to create the heart of a song. When you’re done layering up a great melody, the Instant Export menu allows you to drag and drop export a MIDI of your creation into the most popular DAWs.
SongStarter BETA is available for free download via Oscillicious (available as a Google Chrome app and Win & Mac standalone application). Note that the software will remain free only for a limited amount of time! It will go commercial once the beta testing phase is over.
After watching the demo video, it seems that SongStarter is a useful little tool for churning out quick musical ideas without having to fire up the main DAW (or when you’re away from your main computer). Looks a bit too simple perhaps, but I’ll certainly give the beta version a try.
