Good Loops has released 2 Bar Loop Machine, a free sample based loop generator instrument for Native Instruments Kontakt.
I took my acoustic guitar and recorded some knocks, slaps, scratches and tones. I mapped them to an instrument in Kontakt and added some effects. You can immediately start jamming and moving things around.
2 Bar Loop Machine is available for free download via Good Loops (2.3 MB download size, ZIP archive, contains 10 audio samples in 24-bit WAV format, 1 instrument in NKI format).
The basic idea behind 2 Bar Loop Machine is to create percussive loops using a 2 bar delay loop. Since the maximum available loop length in Kontakt is 1 bar, this virtual instrument uses a little workaround to get the desired loop length. It is required to turn off external tempo sync inside Kontakt and manually set the tempo to half the value of your project BPM.
The instrument is bundled with a nice little collection of guitar noises and scratches which can be used as the foundation of some pretty interesting percussive loops. All in all, 2 Bar Loop Machine is a fun little loop generator which can be used for inspiration and experimentation with simple percussive loops. You can utilize the same basic concept to create loops using your own samples and 3rd party delay effects.
The full version of NI Kontakt is required to use the provided instrument patch, however the samples can be used in virtually any sampler capable of loading WAV files. Good Loops are also offering a free preview pack of their commercial Guitar Kitchen sample library. The freebie pack features a collection of two guitar loops which can be used as backing tracks in rock and pop tunes.
A big thank you goes out to BPB reader lazy who mailed me with a link to this freebie instrument. Cheers for the support!
