Thenatan is giving away DIAL, a new radio signal designer plugin for macOS and Windows, free for 72 hours.
The plugin normally costs $50, but you can currently claim it for $0 with no coupon code. Thenatan does not show an exact cutoff time on the official product page, so I would grab this one sooner rather than later.
DIAL is a lo-fi effect that tries to emulate the sounds you get when tuning an old radio. And it’s surprisingly cool. Instead of simply applying a narrow filter and some static to the input, it lets you move a seven-station dial and hear the signal become clearer or disappear into interference.
Just like a real radio, when you tune directly to a station, the signal comes through cleanly. When you move away from it, the signal gets bad, and you get more noise. The Search control jumps randomly across the band six times per second, then glides back to the selected Tune position when released.
You can switch between FM and AM mode. FM covers a wider 60 Hz-15 kHz range and retains stereo processing, while AM narrows the signal to 300 Hz–3.4 kHz, adds more drive, and folds it to mono.
Four radio models provide different voicing, bandwidth, saturation, and interface skins: Warm Tube, Transistor, Shortwave, and Cheap Speaker.
I also like that you can control the amount of hiss, irregular crackle, and even add randomized Morse-code-style pips. Reception controls introduce slow tuning drift and random dropouts, while the Tone block offers level-matched saturation plus low-cut and high-cut trims.
DIAL also models a loose speaker cabinet through its Rattle section, which combines two slightly detuned wobbles. Every processing block has an individual bypass, and the plugin includes dry/wet mix, output level, a resizable interface, full parameter automation, and 64 factory presets across eight categories.
It’s also zero-latency, so you can use it while recording, as well as for sound design, transitions, vintage vocal effects, and degraded samples. It is somewhat similar to the free Stone Voices Retro Radio, but DIAL pushes the tuning interaction and the ability to change radio models much further.
DIAL supports 64-bit VST and VST3 hosts on Windows 7 or newer, plus AU, VST, and VST3 hosts on macOS with native Apple Silicon support. There is no AAX version.
