Bigcat Instruments and Karoryfer Lecolds have announced the release of Karoryfer Cello, a free cello sample library formatted for use with Native Instruments Kontakt and SFZ compatible virtual instruments.

Together with bigcat instruments and a cellist who’s always been willing to put up with my weird ideas, we’re releasing a free cello library for both Kontakt and SFZ. So, let’s just call it the Karoryfer x bigcat cello!

The library contains 527 individual samples in 24-bit WAV format and it includes both Kontakt and SFZ mappings, so pretty much everyone who needs a virtual cello instrument can grab these samples and use them in their DAW. If you don’t use NI Kontakt, grab a free SFZ compatible sampler such as sforzando or Zampler and load the included SFZ mappings.

I still haven’t put this library to test, however being a huge fan of Karoryfer’s bass samples and Bigcat’s recent works I seriously doubt that I’ll be disappointed by Karoryfer Cello. The official audio demo also sounds very nice, adding another coin into the “I think this one’s going to rock!” jar.

As explained by the authors, their goal was to create a versatile cello sound library which would work well in classical compositions as well as in modern electronic dance music arrangements. The included articulations cover sustain, staccato and pizzicato, along with a handy collection of weird noises and sound effects.

Anyways, if you’re looking for a free cello library, take a look at this one and let me know what you think in the comments section below. You could also check out the recently released Solo Viola Lite freebie and start building your little virtual string ensemble!

    • Both of them were failing for me, but it was obviously a problem on my end. I just snagged a download manager to complete the d/l and I’ve now got it on my HD, piece of cake! :) Thanks for this great work!
