NASA has uploaded a huge collection of sounds from various space missions to their official SoundCloud account. The sounds are available for free download and they’re released under the Creative Commons license.
The collection features hundreds of sounds which were recorded during various space flights and test launches. You’ll find some memorable quotes (like the legendary “One small step for a man” speech by Neil Armstrong), and tons of totally awesome radio chatter from Houston. The library also contains the sounds of various jet engines (although I wish these were recorded a bit better) and some really cool recordings of various space objects.
Without any doubt, this collection of space sounds is a goldmine for music producers as sound designers. The drawback is that the sounds are provided in MP3 format, but even so the sound collection is totally awesome.
The sounds are released under the Creative Commons license and you can use them for free in your musical work, as long as you credit NASA as the source of the sounds. To make sure that you’re absolutely playing it by the rules, take a look at their official file use policy.
