SMM has announced the release of 1960s Ludwig Oyster Blue Pearl Drum Kit, a free acoustic drum sample pack featuring over 300 individual drum hits. Our friend Burzukh has built a set of free TX16Wx sampler mappings for this kit, which you can download right here on BPB!
The sample pack was released on Cockos Confederated Forums a month ago and it’s yet another great set of acoustic drum samples for use in hard rock and similar music genres. Although the pack doesn’t include different velocity layers, there are tons of round robin variations for each drum element. Thanks to all these round robin variations, the overall sound of the sampled kit remains quite natural most of the time, especially for classic rock and pop style drums (where the intensity of the hits is mostly the same throughout the song).
In addition to the original sample pack which you can download in the forum thread mentioned above, our friend Burzukh has created a neat set of mappings for the free TX16Wx software sampler (listed in our samplers round-up). The provided sample pack is pretty much plug-and-play because it already contains the drum samples (included with permission of the original author). Basically, if you have TX16Wx installed on your machine, you can simply download the pack, load the provided mappings and you’re ready to start playing or programming the kit! There’s no need to search for the samples or anything like that.
By default, the instrument patch is set to stereo output and you’ll need to route the multiple outputs manually if you want to process the individual outputs with 3rd party effects.
