Waves Announces A New Free VST Plugin Release For Black Friday! What Will It Be?

22

FREE Waves VST plugin arriving on Black Friday!Waves has announced that they will release a brand new free plugin on November 28th. There’s no information about what this plugin will do or look like, except that it will be a brand new product which will be given away for free this Black Friday.

So, we have absolutely no idea what this plugin will do. However, with an announcement like this coming from a big company such as Waves, there’s definitely something to be excited about.

Will this be an awesome freebie? At this point, all we can do is to sit down and wait for the plugin to go online (and don’t forget to sign up for your free copy). In the meanwhile we can also try to analyze the announcement and come up with some predictions about this forthcoming plugin.

First of all, the official announcement clearly says that this release will be a brand new plugin. So, it’s highly unlikely that it will a free giveaway of some commercial plugin from their product range. They did this last year when they released Renaissance Bass for free on Black Friday. It was a very generous freebie (and I actually love that plugin, contrary to my original expectations), however we should definitely expect something completely different this year.

Technically, a feature-limited free version of some currently available Waves plugin could count as something new, but I doubt that this will be the case either. When something is labeled as brand new, chances are that it won’t be based off of something that’s already out there.

Which leads us to option #3. And option #3 means that we will receive a completely new plugin from Waves, unlike any other plugin in their current product range. For free! Sounds very interesting, so is there any way to guess what this plugin will be?

Truth be told, there are countless options and it could be literally anything. An equalizer, a compressor, a limiter, a delay, an analyzer, you name it! However, my gut tells me that it will be something both simple and useful at the same time. Something that’s not too crazy to give away for free and yet awesome enough to cause a big hype. Could it be a new OneKnob product, or something similar to that?

Waves did release one of the OneKnob plugins for free a couple of years ago and I could easily see something similar coming up on November 28th, except that it would be a completely new plugin this time around. I just took another look at the OneKnob series page and it currently features seven different plugins including a filter, a compressor, a limiter, a distortion effect, a bass booster, a treble booster and a reverb.

What could be added to this list of mixing tools? A chorus effect? A phaser? A bitcrusher or some other lo-fi type effect?

I’d expect something modern like a faux side-chain generator or perhaps a Sausage Fattener type plugin. But we’ll just have to wait and see. And of course, my analysis could be completely and utterly wrong.

So what do you think? Are you excited for this release and do you have some predictions about what it will be? A hunch? Perhaps some insider info? Are you a Waves developer working on the new plugin? Let us know in the comments section below!

  1. It ended up being one knob pumper. It was a bit disappointed at first, til I actually tried it. I like it, especially the ability to adjust the phase.

  2. Welp… yep first post is to post an issue…

It seems the other hosts not listed are not officially supported for the Black Friday plugin (“OneKnob Pumper”)…

other not very known hosts like MuLab

meaning that if you have a problem (MuLab will not detect the main vst. Anyone can help with that?) You cannot have any official help for the product.

    List of offical Hosts:

    Pro Tools 11.0.1 – 11.2.1 (AAX Native 64-bit, Audiosuite)
    Pro Tools 9.0.5 – 10.3.9 (RTAS, Audiosuite)
    Ableton Live 8.2.1 – 9.1.5 (VST)
    Nuendo 5.1.0 – 6.5.35 (VST3)
    Cubase 6.0.3 – 7.5.30 (VST3)
    Sonar X2 (VST), X3c – X3e (VST3)
    Vegas 12 (VST)
    Acid 7.0e (VST)
    Audition CC2014 (VST3)
    Adobe Premiere CC2014 (VST3)
    Samplitude ProX (VST)
    Sequoia 12 (VST)
    Pyramix 7.1.10, 8.0.11 – 9.0.7 (VST)
    Studio One 2.0 – 2.6.4 (VST3)

Yep no FLStudio Support Either (Which is a big Problem since more people use it)

    • where was your actual vst located on your computer? I keep refreshing my plugins but It won’t show up on the list. And of course, I can’t find the actual vst on the computer because the waves folder contains like 10 .dlls, none of which are obviously marked.

          • Yeah what is the actual file name of the vst.
Do I actually have to have the main waves stuff in a non-admin restricted folder or am I supposed to leave it in program files. Yeah the Vst doesn’t seem to work at all in my Mulab DAW.
