Audiffex MultiCabinet & MultiDrive VST Plugins Now FREE!

Audiffex has announced that their MultiCabinet and MultiDrive virtual effects are now being offered on a pay what you want basis, without a minimum payment requirement (read: they can be downloaded and activated completely free of charge).

Both effects are available in VST/AU/RTAS plugin formats for compatible digital audio workstations running on Windows and Mac OS. The plugins were first released back in 2013 and were priced at $19 each. They can now be downloaded and registered completely free of charge at the Audiffex website, with the option to choose your own price at checkout. Once you complete the checkout procedure for each plugin, you will receive a serial number which must be entered before downloading the plugin, as well as during the installation process.

MultiCabinet is a rather versatile virtual guitar cabinet simulator, packing a set of twelve classic cabinet models and eight classic microphones. The user can easily switch between different cabinet models and use up to two virtual microphones at the same time. The GUI provides a useful visual overview of the microphone’s horizontal and vertical position, as well as its angle and distance to the cabinet. The quality of the cabinet emulation is OK, however the plugin’s best feature is definitely its versatility and the ease of use. It is possible to achieve dozens of different guitar tones with just a little bit of tweaking and experimentation.

MultiDrive is the less impressive freebie of the two. The plugin features a set of eight different distortion pedal models, ranging from Ibanez Tube Screamer style overdrive to Boss Metal Zone style distortion. Although the included distortion effects sound pretty decent, the volume difference between difference pedal models is quite worrying. The default pedal model (Treble Booster) causes a huge gain boost which can potentially damage your monitors. Make sure to bring the volume down to a safe level before testing this plugin. Otherwise, MultiDrive is a decent little distortion multi-effect, but we definitely recommend caution when trying the plugin for the first time. Hopefully, a future update will fix this issue.
