AskAudio is giving away STA Delay ($49 value), a tube amplifier and delay effect in VST/AU/AAX plugin formats for PC and Mac.
STA Delay is priced at $49 in Audified’s online store, however it can be downloaded for free if you use the discount code provided by AskAudio Magazine (linked below). When you apply the code, the price will be reduced to $0 and you’ll be able to check out completely free of charge. You will need to use a valid email address at checkout in order to receive your personal serial number, though. The provided serial number is used when downloading the plugin, as well as during the installation.
See also: FREE Delay VST/AU Plugins!In terms of functionality, STA Delay is an interesting delay effect with a tube amplifier stage. The saturation applied by the emulated tube circuit is very subtle, but it can certainly add a bit of character to the delayed signal. Even though I’m a fan of self-oscillating delay effects which can be used to create those epic feedback swells, I honestly didn’t mind the fact that STA Delay can’t be pushed into self oscillation. This is a subtle, well-behaved delay effect which can work really well on guitar backing tracks, vocals, keyboards, and similar song elements which could benefit from a bit of added space and warmth without going overboard.
The user interface is somewhat small by today’s standards (also non-resizable), but I like the overall look and feel. The labels below the controls are somewhat confusing at first (Decay instead of Feedback, Level instead of Mix), however it’s really not a big deal as soon as you figure out which knob does what. A preset manager is included for storing user presets, as well as for browsing the six available factory patches. It is also possible to switch between five different saturation flavors, although the differences are quite subtle (as is the overall impact of the tube saturation effect).
Overall, I’m pretty happy with STA Delay, especially for the price. If you’re looking for a well-behaved, slightly vintage sounding delay effect to warm up your tracks, this one will most probably do the trick. Thanks to AskAudio and Audified for the freebie!
