HY-Plugins has announced the release of HY-Delay3, a versatile multi mode delay effect in VST/VST3/AU plugin format for 32-bit and 64-bit digital audio workstations on PC and Mac. A free version with a reduced feature set is also available on the developer’s website.

HY-Delay3 is the latest version of Tadashi Suginomori’s ever evolving delay effect VST and AU plugin for compatible host applications on Windows and Mac. This new version comes with a completely reworked GUI which is still fully scalable to match any screen size and resolution. The feature list is almost too long to cover in a news article without crossing into review territory, so I’ll briefly go through some of the standout features here. The full specs list is available on the product page linked at the bottom of this article.

The plugin includes six delay modes (Simple, Dual, M-Tap, LoFi, Formant, PM), each sporting a different control panel a specialized feature set. Ranging from the basic delay effects offered by the Simple delay mode to the complex delay powerhouse that is M-Tap, the delay mode section is already more than versatile enough to satisfy most users. But HY-Plugins didn’t stop there, adding a robust dual source modulation section with four modulation source types (LFO, EnvFollower, StepSeq, GridSeq), two FX slots with over 20 different effects to choose from, a ducker module, a multi-mode filter on the output, powerful randomization features, and more.

The FX section is mind-blowingly cool, as it allows the user to include additional delay effects in the feedback loop, resulting in beautifully complex effects. You can also enhance the delayed signal with effects like chorus and phaser, or go crazy with ring modulation and comb filtering. The modulation section is equally amazing, allowing the modulate the delay time, filter cutoff, input/output volume, mix, and other parameters with LFOs, envelope followers, or even step sequencers.

The free version of HY-Delay3 is incredibly powerful for a freeware delay effect.

For the price of $40, HY-Delay3 seems to offer all the flexibility one could ask for in a delay effect. It is available for purchase through PayPal, and the developer promises that you will receive the unlock key (the activation process is kept entirely offline) in less than 24 hours after purchase.

If you’re not in the mood of purchasing a new delay effect, then HY-Delay3 Free is the next best thing. It offers a single delay mode from the full version (Simple) and a single effect (LoFi) without the modulation section, but it’s still noticeably more feature-packed than most freeware delay VST plugins on the market. For starters, it features the ducker module which is a godsend when processing vocals and guitars. It also includes the output limiter, the preset manager, cross-feedback, as well as the undo/redo and randomization features found in the full version of the plugin.

HY-Delay3 and HY-Delay3 Free are available for purchase/download via HY-Plugins (ZIP archive containing manual and automatic installers, 32-bit & 64-bit VST/VST3/AU plugin format for Windows & Mac OS).
