Rayzoon has announced the release of Jamstix 4 Free, a feature-limited freeware version of their flagship Jamstix 4 virtual drummer software for PC and Mac.
A free drum sampler is always good news, and Jamstix 4’s free version is a fine example of one. A paired-down variant of the full product by developer Rayzoon, the new Jamstix 4 Free comes without time limitations, sign-ups, sound crippling, advertisements, or other distractions. It offers a scaled-back version of the original kit with fewer velocity layers, fewer styles and virtual drummers, no MIDI export or drag & drop; and some save functions are disabled. If you can get around the latter, Jamstix 4 Free is a useful tool for any production that needs virtual drumming.
Of note about Jamstix 4 and its free version are the newly included humanizing features. Jamstix 4 features in-depth drummer limb simulation with triangulation of hand movements, the goal being no artificial-sounding performances. The performance’s feel is being modeled, too, including pocket delays, power, and timing variations typical of a live, human drummer in the groove. There’s an integrated arranger, mixer, and a cool live 3D drum kit for editing and visualizing performances.
Overall, Jamstix 4 Free is certainly a generous amount of drum kit for the price of free. You can extract a fair bit of grooves out of this free version before its limitations get in the way of your production quality!
The instrument is available for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows computers in VST and AAX plugin formats. A MacOS version is headed to Apple computers in the first quarter of 2018.
Jamstix 4 Free is available for free download via Rayzoon (3.8 MB download size, ZIP archive containing EXE installer, 32-bit & 64-bit VST/AAX plugin format for Windows).
