Free 1GB Orchestral Kontakt Library Released By Red Room Audio

Red Room Audio has introduced Palette – Primary Colors, a free orchestral sound library for Native Instruments Kontakt based on the label’s commercial Palette sound packs.

Palette – Primary Colors includes 1.3 GB of orchestral sounds handpicked from Red Room Audio’s premium Palette product line. Compared to the full version of the product, the free Palette – Primary Colors library comes with fewer articulations and a single microphone position. On the other hand, it offers three dynamic layers and seven round-robin variations per sampled note, same as in the premium version of Palette. As for the sampled instruments, the library features strings, woodwinds, and brass ensembles.

The customized Kontakt interface looks very good (based on the screenshot) and provides direct access to several different articulations, effects, various performance controls (dynamics, expression, vibrato, tremolo), and a simple 3-channel mixer. The library will work in the full version of Native Instruments Kontakt 5.7.3 and above. If you’re using the free Kontakt Player as the host, the library will go completely silent after fifteen minutes (this is the demo limitation of the free Kontakt Player).

At the time of writing this article, Red Room Audio’s download server doesn’t seem to be working properly. I successfully completed the checkout process (free user account registration is required) and received the download link via email, but the link leads to a “502 Bad Gateway” page. It also appears that only a limited amount of downloads is available per user and that the unsuccessful downloads count towards this number. I now have four downloads remaining after four unsuccessful download attempts.

With that in mind, you can sign up for your free copy of Palette – Primary Colors now and wait for the download server to go back online. Be careful not to waste your download attempts or you might need to complete the checkout process again. Judging by video demo featured on the product page, this free orchestral sample library might be well worth the wait!
