Wavesfactory has announced the release of Typewriter, a freely downloadable NI Kontakt sample library featuring the sounds of a Royal vintage typewriter.
This isn’t the first typewriter sample library we’ve seen to date, but we’re pretty sure it’s the most advanced one you can download for free. Wavesfactory Typewriter was sampled using four different microphone positions (close stereo, stereo ribbon, mono, and stereo room), allowing for significant tonal adjustment via the built-in mixer. The user can control the pan, width, and volume parameters for each microphone position, along with being able to rout each microphone to a different audio output for additional processing inside the DAW.

For those who prefer to do all the processing within Kontakt, the team at Wavesfactory has implemented a customized user interface with separate panels for the audio mixer, the FX section, and the performance controls. The effects panel can host up to eight FX types such as delay, phaser, EQ, saturation, etc. The built-in convolution reverb effect comes with more than 40 custom impulses to help with achieving a natural sounding room ambiance. The settings panel is where you can adjust various performance parameters such as the number of round-robin repetitions, sample pre-roll, release sample volume, and more.
One thing worth noting is that Typewriter will only work in demo mode (15-minute time limit) in the free Kontakt Player instrument. The full version of Native Instruments Kontakt is required to use the sample library without limitations.

onOn a related note, Soniccouture just made their freebies (Choir Horns, Music Boxes and RMI Rocksichord) compatible with the free Kontakt Player, so no need to own Kontakt anymore to use them :)
