FXhome has launched Blender To HitFilm, a free masterclass on using 3D assets from Blender (free and open-source) in HitFilm and HitFilm Express (freeware).
You may already know that I’ve recommended HitFilm Express as the best free video editing application in the past. It’s very user friendly, but not at the cost of lacking in features. On the contrary, it offers plenty of functionality for video editing, compositing, animation, special effects, and even using 3D assets.
FXhome, the company behind HitFilm and HitFilm Express, reached out a few days ago to let me know about the new 3D visuals masterclass. The idea is that, now that we are all spending so much time at home, this is the perfect opportunity to learn new skills. By learning the basics of 3D modeling and compositing, you will be able to create interesting visuals that could work as a music video for your next release.
We released a 3D visuals masterclass that might be right up the street of many Bedroom Producers Blog readers – particularly those planning on producing their own music videos. The goal is to introduce creatives to 3D model design in Blender (freeware), and show them how they can then composite their own assets realistically into a scene. Given that many content creators are feeling held back by the unfortunate circumstances at the moment, this is a perfect gateway for them to start learning a new and exciting skillset from home.
So, if you’re interested in learning 3D visuals and doing some video projects to go along with your music, this free masterclass is a great place to start. Simply visit the Blender To HitFilm masterclass page on FXhome’s website and watch the embedded videos – there’s no need to sign up or download anything. Here’s what the masterclass will cover, with a new video released every week:
- Introduction to Blender’s UI & Tools
- Shaping & Texturing a Container
- Cutting & Applying Details
- Compositing & Animated Textures in HitFilm
- Rigid Body Dynamics and Cloth Physics (COMING JUNE 9TH)
Not only is the masterclass a free watch, but it’s also completely focused on using free software. You will use Blender to create 3D models and HitFilm Express to turn those models into animated videos. And yes, both applications can be used free of charge.

onThis is seriously cool, I’ve been wanting to learn 3D modelling and animation for a while now, but never got around doing it fully. This is the kind of class that can ignite a passion with younger people as the barrier to entry is virtually non-existent.
