Jamahook is a free plugin that functions as an assistant for music producers. It uses AI sound-matching technology to suggest loops that rhythmically and harmonically match your current project.

Writer’s block is a very real and awful phenomenon. However, if you’ve got the guts to a great track but need a little something extra, maybe Jamahook is the tool for you. Jamahook is built upon that newfangled AI that we can’t seem to escape in news cycles the world over, but I think it has some utility here.
Jamahook’s basic concept is it listens to your track, stems, or whatever other audio you want to feed it and recommends loops to add to the production itself.
I mostly sample as a means of synthesis, but for those who like to chop and screw audio, this might be a fun utility.
The software itself is free to use, but using the loops does require a paid subscription. If you’ve got a relatively good ear, you might be able to bypass this by just copying what you hear and moving about your day.
The loops themselves are suggested based on the AI powering Jamahook, and it is a quick and painless process to get some recommendations. Once you get recommendations, you can audition them in real time from the comfort of your own DAW.
I did find some inspired uses for my own tracks, but I’m also a miser when it comes to paying subscriptions. If writer’s block has you down, then it might be worth a closer look.
Jamahook is the latest in many audio plugins leveraging AI to get a creative response. I won’t pretend to understand the technology driving it, but it is quite fun to use.
I would probably be more keen on trying the subscription if I could keep myself from purchasing guitar pedals, but that’s another story for a different time. Subscriptions start at €3.99 with 20 loops and increase to €19.99 monthly with 200 loops.
Jamahook requires a host capable of using VST or AU plugins. It runs on Windows and Mac and requires a 64-bit host. If you’re a subscriber, you can also use a web app to browser loops without having to boot up the DAW.
