It’s a new month, and it’s time for another Plugin Boutique freebie, offering a FREE gift with every purchase at Plugin Boutique throughout September.
Plugin Boutique’s September Gifts give you the choice between Audiority’s Pyros and Excite Audio’s Bloom Vocal Aether Lite.
You can grab a copy of either plugin free with any purchase at Plugin Boutique throughout September 2024.
Pyros is a multimode distortion plugin that blends aggressive saturation, distortion, and mangling effects. It has 25 distinct shaping algorithms, from warm and soft saturation to complete decimation.
From left to right, the controls start with LF Cut, which cuts the low frequencies from the input signal. Next up is Drive and Strength; these controls behave slightly differently depending on the current algorithm.
The Tone knob is a simple LP/HP filter control, helpful in shaping the sound. With the Clipping switch, you can switch between Hard (digital) and Soft (tube-like) clipping.
Envelope Amount and Envelope (follower) Release controls allow you to create dynamic distortion effects.
Pyros retails at £35.95, and it’s a good way to add a little dirt to anything from vocals to drums (or mangle everything).
For more sound mangling fun, check out the latest freebie from Igorski, Delirion.
Bloom Vocal Aether is Excite Audio’s first virtual instrument. The Lite version is available for free (usually £29).
If you are familiar with the Hooked module from Output’s Arcade, you’ll know exactly what Bloom Vocal Aether Lite is about. It’s almost an exact copy, visually, right down to the interface layout.
It’s a playable instrument that allows you to trigger, modify, chop, and mangle vocal samples in a very intuitive way. Although not new, the concept is excellent; white keys trigger samples, and black keys act as modifiers.
You also get four macro controls: Warmer (saturation/distortion), Speaker (cheap/phone speaker effect), Doubler (stereo spread), and Ethereal (reverb and delay).
The available modifiers are Half-Time, Double-Time, Reverse, and Octave Down/Up.
The plugin has four sample banks with 56 vocal phrases, and 74 presets. Samples sync to host BPM.
The full version of Bloom Vocal Aether Lite offers more samples, presets, and editing options.
Being something of an Arcade clone isn’t necessarily bad; it’s cheaper, sounds great, and you don’t need to be online.
Although, for clarity, Arcade requires you to be online to download new kits, however, you can use pre-downloaded kits offline.
The real downside of Bloom Vocal Aether Lite is that, unlike Arcade, you can’t import samples; you are confined to the existing sample banks.
It doesn’t mean you can’t create unique vocal patterns; you absolutely can, but I’d like to see an import option in the future.
Thanks to Plugin Boutique for another fantastic offer!

onbloom vocal seemed to hijack the audio and make everything silent. The $49 synth bundle is a nice package anyway without it. I am not sure if I need an external sound card to make bloom vocal work I am very disappointed and I will try it again in an empty project.

oni dont know your setup and situation, but normally there should be no difference between an external or internal soundcard.
