Variety of Sound releases FeenstaubTX, a FREE transient designer plugin for Windows.
When news of a free plugin arrives, it’s always welcome, but few freebie announcements inspire the same excitement and expectancy as a Variety of Sound release.
Variety of Sound has provided some of the best free plugins for a long time now, and the trusted developer is back with a new addition to the already stellar collection.
FeenstaubTX is a free transient exciter and expander effect for Windows (VST/VST3).
The plugin works best with complex full program stereo material, balancing audio in three dimensions: timbre, dynamic structure, and distribution in the stereo field.
While overzealous use of exciter effects can lead to unpleasant results, FeenstaubTX aims to remain consistent and musical. Transient-based processing allows subtle compression and expansion with minimal distortion.
FeenstaubTX offers tasteful coloration, transient management, glue effects, and stereo width control.
The plugin functions in a mid-side configuration with identical controls and functions for each channel.
The large Mid/Side knobs adjust the intensity of the processing. The TRIM function provides level control (+/- 6 dB) after the VU meter of the Mid/Side processing and before the central Gain metering.
You can also solo either channel.
One of the most interesting features of FeenstaubTX is the Cross-Channel Processing function. You can use the intensity of one channel to perform signal saturation or expansion in the other channel via the X-Mid/X-Side knobs.
The Range knob, per channel, adjusts the transient detection window from narrow to wide.
FeenstaubTX showcases the developer’s “passion for preserving the magic of analog in the digital domain.”
We’ve already had multiple releases from Variety of Sound this year, including the epicCLOUDS ambient reverb and BootEQ mkIV, an EQ and preamp plugin.
Variety of Sound plugins bring some analog attitude and mojo to your sound and do so in a way that’s only possible thanks to the developer’s dedication to innovation while maintaining the best of sounds gone by.
In other news, Minimal Audio’s Morph EQ is available for $10 (usually $49) at Audio Plugin Deal till September 20th. You can do far worse things with ten bucks; it’s a steal!

onGreat! Thx! After all these years VOS plugs remain some of the best available.

onAwesome as usual but damn I wish VoS plugs were C++ instead of SynthEdit. However, that’s just me being greedy; I’m appreciative of Bootsy’s skills and generosity over the years.

onThis plugin is definitely not made in SynthEdit for two main reasons:
1) the plugin made in SynthEdit does not support resizing the GUI – this plugin has GUI resizing
2) the compiled vst3/64bit format from SyntEdit is not just one file but many other files (see for example plugins from Mastrcode Music or Ronan Fed) – this plugin is a single file…

onInteresting, Vera, thank you. Maybe it’s FlowStone and I’ve gotten it confused? Hmm. I know VoS used one or the other in years past, but perhaps he’s coding them himself these days and I missed the memo. If so, that gets me jazzed. 🥳

onThat’s because all VoS plugins are using SynthMaker (now Flowstone) as framework and not SynthEdit. Always did, so far.
Well, there is SlickEQ but that’s a collab with Tokyo Dawn Records. :x
