Black Friday is approaching, and we have a brand new deal to look at. Until November 17, Rast Sound is offering their VoxPlay Kontakt library for free.
We’ve previously reviewed Rast Sound’s Mad Filter, a very cool free filter and distortion plugin.
And now, they are giving away VoxPlay for free, which normally sells for 49€. There are seemingly only 1000 free licenses available for VoxPlay, so if it piques your interest, grab it quick!
VoxPlay is a collection of “contemporary vocals from 20 unique performers, further designed for melodic playability.”
If you’ve ever wanted to implement vocal chops in your productions but were intimidated by the process, fear not.
VoxPlay is designed to help you create vocal solos, chops, and phrases quickly. It contains over 775 samples and 72 vocal sets up to 2 octaves each to inspire you.
To be frank, the samples in this library don’t really sound natural, but that seems to be part of its charm.
It’s the same sort of sound that you would get by chopping and processing your vocals manually. But with the difference that the hard part has already been done for you.
The samples are divided into 3 distinct categories. Contemporary Vocals includes vocal chops, keys, and glides that are perfect for styles like hip-hop and EDM.
Thematic Sets has long articulations that are catered more for ambient and cinematic music.
And finally, Exotic Takes contains processed world and folk vocal performances that can add a unique vibe to your music.
I like the aesthetic of VoxPlay. It looks like some of the older hardware samplers, with that pale blue/violet color and old-school knobs.
The controls seem fairly straightforward. You can adjust things like attack, release, pitch, and sample start for the patch. There’s also a 3-band EQ, key sensitivity, and a legato mode.
You can use the volume and filter sequencers to add some movement and rhythmic excitement to the sound, kind of like a simplified version of Audiomodern’s free Filterjam.
Finally, there are some FXs, such as delay, phaser, and reverb. These FX only have one knob each, which can eliminate some of the guesswork you might have to do when unfamiliar with the library.
VoxPlay runs as a Kontakt library inside the full version of Kontakt. Please note that the free Kontakt Player is not supported
