Pitch Perfekt is a new release from Algoriffix, an audio developer focused on AI technology.
Do you ever struggle with programming MIDI parts using a MIDI keyboard? Coming up with melodies using a keyboard can be difficult if it’s not your main instrument.
You may have the perfect melody in your head and be able to hum it pretty well, but translating that to a keyboard might be challenging.
Today, we’ll look at a really cool product that will be very useful in these situations.
Using AI, the Pitch Perfekt plugin allows you to sing into your mic and transcribe it into MIDI in real time.
And, of course, you can load up your favorite synth or sampled instrument and go to town, essentially using your voice as the MIDI controller.
Now, I couldn’t find any current video demos of Pitch Perfekt, which is unfortunate. But I found a 2-year-old video on the Algoriffix YouTube channel where they showcase a similar plugin.
They show how you can improvise melodies using your voice and have the plugin transcribe to MIDI in real time.
And they’ve used a MIDI instrument (a saxophone in this case) to play back the melody, again, in real-time.
This is an interesting way to capture your musical ideas and may come in handy in many situations. Similar to the good old voice memo app but with direct MIDI transcription.
This old plugin from the video seems to be a bit rough around the edges, with some bum note detections.
But just from the look of Pitch Perfekt, it’s clear they’ve put a lot of work into it, and it makes me think the note detection has most likely improved as well.
MIDI transcription can be done either in real-time as we mentioned, or by dragging and dropping a pre-recorded WAV, MP3, or AIFF file.
Pitch Perfekt then gives you features like key and melody tracking, scale enforcement, and low latency to improve pitch detection.
Setting up this plugin seems to require some work so be sure to check the user guide from Algoriffix when trying it.
Pitch Perfekt is available as a VST3 and AU plugin and a standalone program for Windows and macOS.

onVoice to midi was possible before. Sing into an autotuner. And then convert to midi.
How safe are these ai plugins?
Happy holidays.
Algoriffix
onWhat exactly are your concerns regarding safety? The plug-in won’t attack you.

onThere are always people who have non-deterministic algorithms phobia.

onHappy holidays everyone! I’m gonna look into this pitch perfect plugin. I downloaded the free neuralnote plug a few weeks ago. It does a pretty good job of converting audio to midi files single on non-complex, type audio such as pianos. I converted a sax sample to midi with neuralnote and it converted pretty well to a midi file. I only had to move one note to the right to have a perfect conversion. Pitch perfect may work better on pianos than neuralnote. Will see. If I can figure out how to use pitchperfect. I can see creating lots of backing parts simply by doing a harmonious skat singing and humming.

onThis is so awesome! Reminds me of the original UJAM, when their main attraction was user-friendly voice-to-midi software. A good friend of mine used it all the time, and we even made a song together once. The workflow really clicked with them and they were pretty bummed out when that software was deprecated. They’ll be so happy when I tell them about this. :)
Instead of spreading negativity, let’s spread some cheer! Happy holidays, all!

onHappy to see someone being excited about it. Hope it lives up to your expectations! Happy holidays!

onI Deinstaled Pitch Perfect… beside plugin, they instal some AI, to lear something? I’m not sure now, it was maybe week ago. Also i’m not sure is it really intrusive, (so chech yourself) i decide to delete it.
Algoriffix
onThe installer only installs what it says: the standalone app and the plug-ins. It is absolutely non-intrusive, as it doesn’t collect any of your data. Your scaremongering is baseless.

onThank you, Soroosh, for your friendly post!
The note detection has been revised, indeed. The feedback we’ve received so far was positive and encouraging. But we’re open to all suggestions on how to improve it further.
If someone is used to working with MIDI controllers, getting the plug-in up and running won’t pose an issue at all. Inexperienced users should probably acquaint themselves with the topic first to avoid frustration. Our user guide might suffice for many but we don’t cover all of MIDI, of course.

onI use Jam Origin MIDI Guitar 2 (you can use the demo version without limitations – I own the paid) to convert audio to MIDI. I find RipX not the best with vocals but does good for bass lines, not the best for drums, but excellent for stem separation. Melodyne is my go-to – I find that it works the best.

onHi team.
A request to have a post about Console X from Airwindows.
Thanks

onHi OM, nice one, thanks for the tip. We’ll feature it this week.

onBeen messing about with Pitch Perfekt this afternoon. Not having great success. Just been using the standalone version with Analog Lab V as the virtual instrument. The only way I could get the MIDI output to send anything to the instrument was to use the loopMIDI sotware as the MIDI output from Pitch Perfekt. This did send some MIDI notes trigerred by my voice input, but in a very unreliable way. Lots of notes it missed completely, it was totally unable to handle a series of notes sung in rapid succession and even notes sung pretty slowly were not reliable. Based on my experience so far, I would say this is not at all useful. Even my fairly basic keyboard skills will give me better results than this. If anyone figures out how to get it working flawlessly, perhaps they could post the explanation here. I should add, I have not tried it out as a plugin in my DAW yet. So perhaps the experience there will be different.
Algoriffix
onUsing the standalone app for real-time processing in combination with other music apps on Windows is not recommended. The “pass thru” button should give you an idea why. Please let us know if your experience with the plug-in matches your keyboard skills.

onOK, I have tried it in plugin mode within Reaper now. Took me way to long to get it working, even using loopMIDI as per the instructions. In the end I could not get it to track anywhere near accurately. Lots of missing notes and additional artifacts in the MIDI recording no matter how much time I spent tweaking the input and output levels both via my audio interface and within Pitch Perfekt. Bit disappointed, as I liked the idea, but it’s just not meeting any of my needs I’m afraid.

onDoesn’t work in FL Studio. It doesn’t send any signals anywhere.
Waste of time.
