Norrland Samples now offers their entire Solo Trumpet instrument and Kontakt sample library for free.
There are a lot of cheesy-sounding brass synths floating around. If you’ve felt your current arsenal in the orchestral domain fall short, we has some good news for you.
This enormous package includes almost 6,000 samples recorded with five types of microphones at various distances, modelled vibrato, 14 different mutes, true legato, sustain, staccato, and much more.
Solo Trumpet is made for the full version of Native Instruments Kontakt 5.8.1 or later.

The men behind Norrland Samples, Viktor Lindholm and Göran Wretling, aim to create virtual instruments that can be played the way a musician would play a real instrument.
Their painstaking attention to detail and flexible options for modulation in Solo Trumpet underscores this vision.
Creating such a library with additional modelling and functionality is no small feat. The team has described it as a “dream come true”.
And it has paid off: Sample Library Reviews awarded them “Best orchestral brass instrument” in 2021.
Solo Trumpet has too many features to cover in depth here, but the team has produced an extensive manual that goes through the different aspects of the instrument.
Several video demonstrations are available at their site, here is a basic rundown:

In general, you start by deciding if you want the instrument to be monophonic or polyphonic, crafting your trumpet tone and choosing between an algorithmic or a convolution-based reverb to give it some size.
You then adjust the microphone settings to further dial in your preferred sound as well as its localization.
I can imagine such a flexible layout being handy when you need to surgically place something in a busy mix, for instance.
The next step is setting the vibrato with a generous amount of envelope controls to add drama and realism to the sound.
Finally, you can select between different mutes if the situation needs it.
Whether you’re into classical, cinematic scores, big bands, sound design or if you just like the sound of brass, this seems like incredible value.
Considering the whole instrument and sample pack is generously offered for free, this is a definite no-brainer if you already own Native Instruments Kontakt and want to expand your sound palette.
You can donate a humble amount to Norrland Samples through their website, which is something to consider if you have the means and appreciate their efforts.
