W.A. Production Deres De-Resonation effect is available for $12.90

Deres is a De-Resonation effect plugin by W.A. Production, and is one of many plugins currently offered at huge discounts over at Plugin Boutique.

You can get Deres for $12.90 until December 31st, which is 63% off the usual price!

Resonance suppressors are gradually getting more common in the mixing and production world, with classics like DSEQ and soothe2 being as close as you can get to household names.

Resonances both make and break a mix. Too many uncontrolled resonances from poor samples, recordings in untreated rooms, and over-processing can quickly make things both muddy, harsh, congested, and spiky.

While EQ notching, compression, and saturation can alleviate some problems, we all know the immense frustration stemming from a track that just won’t behave.

A resonance suppressor that moves with the program material and tames the most offensive frequencies can often be the solution.

The downside with tools like soothe2 is that it can make especially acoustic instruments sound unnatural, lifeless, or straight-up artificial if used ineffectively and applied too generously.

This is where Deres tries to do things a little differently. Deres lets you pick out the most offensive resonance peak, and then applies suppression to the harmonic multipliers of that frequency as well.

This is particularly helpful if your room has a certain tonal character that seeps into your recordings, or if your samples have certain offensive qualities you want to nip out with minimal damage to the rest of the audio.

YouTube video

Deres works from 1kHz and up, so it’s more of a higher frequency cleaner and enhancer. Use the big knob in the middle of the plugin in combination with the “listen” switch and Q-control to identify the worst frequency and apply your desired amount of processing. The “octave” control processes the upper structure of your selected frequency.

Deres lets you apply either a static cut or a dynamic mode for particularly challenging material. You can monitor your processing with the visual feedback at the top of the UI to get a better idea of what your plugin does to the audio.

If your result seems a bit flat, Deres has an exciter to reintroduce harmonics into your sound, restoring some of the lost fullness without recreating the same muddy or harsh character you initially removed, instead aiming for air and presence.

There’s also a “tone” knob that adds convolution effects, changing the tonal balance, as well as a “compensate” function that adds some additional brightness if the resonance suppressor has darkened the sound too much.

You can also engage a low-cut filter to remove rumble or mud in the low-mids.

Deres can be operated in either stereo or mid/side mode, making it a flexible tool.

I think this would work especially well on single tracks, such as vocals, to eliminate frustrating sounds that create a mess at the mixbus stage, rather than using it as a mixbus processor in itself (while nothing stops you if it sounds good, of course).

All in all, Deres seems like a handy tool you’d use here and there for particularly irritating problems where your usual combinations of tools don’t quite make the cut, and where you need less tweakability and potential avenues for over-processing with tools like soothe2.

As it stands, €13.44 is a low price for a plugin like this, so check it out before New Year’s Eve and grab it at a discount if you like it!
