PSP AudioWare has released PSP stereoAnalyser2, a free stereo metering plugin for macOS and Windows, just in time for the holiday season.
This isn’t a “free for a limited time” promo that later turns into a paid product, either. PSP stereoAnalyser2 is a permanently free plugin, and it’s essentially an updated and improved version of PSP’s earlier stereo analysis tool.
As you’d expect from PSP AudioWare, the plugin looks excellent. The interface is clean and well-balanced. I love how easy it is on the eyes while hitting the sweet spot of detail without clutter.
I’m especially into the dark blue and orange color scheme. It has enough contrast to clearly show what’s going on, but it never feels fatiguing, even during longer sessions. Obviously, this is essential for a plugin that you look at instead of listening to.
Functionality-wise, PSP stereoAnalyser2 delivers exactly what I want from a stereo analysis plugin with zero fluff. At the center is the goniometer (X-Y scope), which gives you a visual representation of the stereo image. It’s great for checking width, phase relationships, and overall stereo behavior at a glance.
Alongside the scope, you get a correlation meter for monitoring mono compatibility, a balance meter to keep left/right energy in check, and precise peak and RMS level meters. Together, these tools cover the essential stereo monitoring tasks you’ll need during recording, mixing, and (especially) mastering.
One nice added feature is the ability to pinpoint the frequencies for monitoring. You can set high-pass and low-pass filters to focus the analysis on a specific frequency range, which is helpful when checking low-end mono compatibility or examining how high-frequency content spreads across the stereo field.
There’s also a monitoring mode that lets you listen directly to the filtered frequency band, making the visual feedback even more meaningful.
Other handy touches include adjustable zoom on the scope, nonlinear display shaping for better readability, a resizable GUI, preset management with A/B comparison, and undo/redo. Under the hood, PSP stereoAnalyser2 runs on 64-bit internal processing and supports sample rates up to 384 kHz.
Overall, it’s an easy recommendation if you want more precision when working with stereo signals (whether it’s a channel or a mix).
