Softube’s Model 82 Sequencing Mono Synth is currently 70% off at Plugin Boutique, which brings the price down from $99 to $29 until April 19th.
We actually have two excellent deals in this article, but let’s take a look at Softube’s acid monster first.
Softube Model 82

Model 82 is Softube’s take on the Roland SH-101, the iconic mono synth that went from commercial flop to defining the sound of acid house and many other styles of electronic music.
The original was always a bit plasticky, but its nose-diving secondhand price during the late ’80s put it in the hands of a generation of techno and dance producers who turned it into an icon. For $29, I think it’s a great addition to any electronic musician’s synth toolkit.
Softube modeled every circuit and interaction in the original, and the result (to my ears, at least) is close to indistinguishable from the hardware in most musical contexts.
The signal path starts with the Source Mixer (sawtooth, square/pulse, sub-oscillator, and white noise) feeding a 24dB/octave resonant low-pass filter. One thing worth noting here is that Softube made the low end a shade beefier than the original SH-101, which always felt a bit lightweight in the low-frequency range.
The extra depth makes Model 82 more production-ready without sacrificing the hardware’s character.
Softube kept a single ADSR envelope rather than adding a second one, as some competing emulations do. Using one envelope alongside the VCA gate option often brightens the sound, as the filter and VCA release phases interact to create interesting back-end decay and color.
Of course, the sequencer and arpeggiator are a big part of what made the SH-101 special. The step sequencer was famously easy to program, and Model 82 carries that over with DAW sync at 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, or 1/32 note values.
You definitely don’t need to be a trained pianist to get something musical going with this one.
Softube also added a Drive knob for fuzzy overtones (great with resonant filter settings) and a Doubling knob that widens the mono signal for modern stereo productions. A hidden side panel adds velocity and aftertouch control of the VCF and VCA, which the original never had.
The purchase includes Model 82 for Modular, which splits the synth into five individual modules (VCO, LFO, VCF-VCA, FX, and ENV) for use in Softube’s Modular environment.
Bonus Deal: AudioThing JULY

If you’re after another classic hardware emulation at a good price, AudioThing’s JULY is also on sale at Plugin Boutique.
JULY is a Juno emulation built around detailed circuit modeling of the original’s IR3109 filter chip and MN3009 BBD chorus chips, with chorus modes I, II, and I+II. It includes four built-in effects (tape echo, spring reverb, overdrive, and phaser) and an expanded arpeggiator with up to four octaves of range.
JULY is 43% off at $39 (down from $69) until April 30th. It’s available in VST2, VST3, AU, AAX, and CLAP formats for macOS and Windows.
Model 82 requires macOS Big Sur 11 or above and Windows 10/11 in AU, VST, VST3, and AAX formats. A free iLok account is required for authorization.
