Ewan Bristow has officially hit 10k followers on Twitter/X, and as promised, his UZU frequency domain phaser is now free. The plugin normally sells for $17, and you can grab it from the developer’s website for free.
We covered the initiative back in October 2025, when Ewan announced that UZU would be made free for 48 hours if and when his X account reached 10,000 followers. The window has stretched to a full week this time, which is even better news.
If you missed the original announcement, UZU is a frequency domain phaser inspired by Image-Line’s Harmor. Conventional phasers work in the time domain with a handful of notches (usually 12 or 24), but UZU operates in the frequency domain using FFT and offers up to 8192 notches.
The result is pretty cool, with more bubbly and fluttery phasing than a typical all-pass design can produce. I tested this on some Charlatan leads and pads with some added reverb, and it sounds very interesting.
The interface keeps things simple with six main knobs. Width sets the distance between spectral notches, Offset controls the main phase shift of the filter shape, and Depth adds sharpness and depth to each notch.
You can also tweak Speed to handle offset modulation, Mix to balance dry and wet, and Blur to round spectral bins for rhythmic pulses. There’s a 5x multiplier for Offset and Speed if you want to push things further.
UZU also lets you switch the spectral weighting between Hz and logarithmic distribution, change the spectral engine’s block size, and turn on a Keep Bass mode that preserves frequencies below 250 Hz (that’s super handy for keeping your low end intact while smearing the rest).
If you’re new to Ewan Bristow, he’s a Bristol-based developer who has been putting out some amazing indie plugins in 2025, both free and paid. My favorite of the bunch so far is his ANINA spectral shaping plugin, which is great for carving space in busy mixes.
I also use LOCD, his phase-lock distortion, a lot for sound design. It’s become one of my go-to distortion tools.
UZU is available in VST3, CLAP, and AU formats for Windows, macOS, and Linux. The free offer runs for 7 days, so don’t sit on it for too long.
