SampleScience is giving away RC909 Pro, a sample-based TR-909 drum instrument for macOS and Windows, free instead of $30 through October 31st.
There is no shortage of free 909 samples, but RC909 Pro packages them into a drum plugin that’s ready to play as soon as you load it and offers plenty of options for customizing the kit.
The instrument includes the original 909 drum kit alongside 19 variations processed through tubes, amplifiers, cassette equipment, DSP, classic computers, and old video game consoles. This gives you cleaner club-ready drums as well as crunchier, degraded alternatives without building a separate processing chain.
You can adjust the drum parameters and decay, then route the individual sounds for more precise mixing in your DAW. The interface also provides an LFO for adding a bit of movement to your grooves.
The built-in processing section offers many options, including a sub-generator that reinforces the low end, while distortion, delay, and reverb provide additional sound shaping. Low-pass and high-pass filters are also included.
The thing I like the most, though, is that RC909 Pro also includes a vinyl crackle simulator and a separate tape hiss generator. These are super useful when you want the drums to feel sampled from an older record or cassette rather than simply recorded directly from a pristine drum machine.

SampleScience has been making affordable sample-based instruments for more than a decade, and we have covered many of them on BPB. Recent examples include the free Cozy Piano and last year’s giveaway featuring Virtual Handpan, 80s DrumStar, and UltraBasic.
The current RC909 Pro v1.1 update fixes a problem that prevented the VST3 edition from appearing in Ableton Live 12. It also lets you store the instrument’s sound content on an external drive, which is handy if you prefer to keep sample libraries separate from your system disk.
RC909 Pro requires 241 MB of storage and runs as a 64-bit VST, VST3, and AU plugin. It supports Windows 8.1, 10, and 11, as well as macOS 10.14 or later with native Apple Silicon support. An AAX edition is not included, so Pro Tools is not supported directly.
The public Gumroad link automatically reduces the price from $30 to $0. If the discount does not appear, enter the code free909drums during checkout. The promotion runs through October 31st.
