POPlab Sounds has released Modern Live-Drums, a new acoustic drum library modeled after the sound of current pop hits.
The library is built around the kind of live-but-punchy drum sound that’s been front and center in modern radio pop production.
In this case, instead of offering a generic acoustic kit, POPlab Sounds focused on recreating the specific tones from contemporary pop tracks, with each kit designed to be production-ready straight out of the box and to work as a starting point for a track.
Basically, the idea is to give you mix-ready drums that are pre-made to match current popular drum sounds, so you can use them as a reliable first building block in your projects.
Modern Live-Drums includes 20 drum kits split across three style categories: Light, Punchy, and Big.
Each kit comes with up to 12 one-shot instruments (kick, snare, hats, toms, cymbals, percussion, etc.) and up to 5 round-robin variations per hit for natural-sounding repeated notes.
There’s also a dedicated loop key and a tailor-made MIDI pattern per kit, which doubles as a quick way to audition the kit in context and as a starting point for your own arrangement.

The library ships in five formats that are compatible with almost any workflow.
There’s a clean .wav sample pack with organized folders that works in any DAW. For Ableton Live 12 users, there’s a Drum Rack version with audio previews directly in the browser.
Logic Pro users get a Drum Machine Designer version, and MPC users (MPC 2 hardware or MPC Beats) get a dedicated MPC Expansion with color-coded pads and sound previews.
Kontakt users get an officially licensed, NKS-ready Kontakt 8 Player instrument with extra workflow features: a preset browser with sound preview, MIDI drag-and-drop, multi-out support, and dedicated sound-shaping controls. Because it runs in the free Kontakt 8 Player, you don’t need the paid version of Kontakt to use it.
A nice side benefit of the native Ableton and Logic integrations is that they take advantage of each DAW’s built-in drum sampler, which means lower CPU and RAM usage than running a full sampler instance, and drum names are visible directly on the piano roll.
You also get project portability, meaning sessions can be opened on another machine without the library being installed first.
All the sounds in Modern Live-Drums are royalty-free for use in commercial releases. There are also MIDI files included in every format.
Modern Live-Drums is available now for €59 (regular price €79) directly from the POPlab Sounds website during the intro sale.
