Smart Audio Plugins has released Timbral Box, a parallel harmonic processor for mixing and mastering, available for an introductory price of €48.30/$56 through September 30th, 2026.
Timbral Box is a parallel harmonic processor. Instead of running the entire signal through EQ, saturation, and compression, it leaves the dry signal untouched and adds four processed layers alongside it: Bass, Mid, High, and Parallel Comp.
This lets you add weight, presence, and density while preserving the original transients and punch. It is essentially a parallel harmonic EQ/enhancer with more flexibility than typical saturation tools.
The Bass Processor can operate around 34, 55, 89, or 144 Hz. Its Shape control moves between a looser response that lets the transient remain free while the harmonics ring longer, and a tighter, more solid character. Saturation Mode A is the less dense, clipping-oriented option, while Mode B combines clipping and saturation for a more compact sound.
The Mid Processor adds Blend, Mid Focus, Mid Frequency, and a 3D control that introduces depth without altering phase. I liked that setting Mode A with Blend at zero lets this section behave more like a clean parallel equalizer. Of course, you can also move it toward more obvious harmonic shaping.
The High Processor follows the same Shape and dual-mode concept, with a Sparkle control for adding extra top-end energy in parallel. Each of the three frequency sections can run in Natural or Linear phase mode. Natural mode avoids extra latency on individual tracks, while the dev recommends Linear for buses and mastering.
The Parallel Comp section is also different from a standard compressor. Its Movement control changes both the threshold and compression curve, while Release adjusts how the added layer moves around the dry signal. Full Mix is the more restrained mode, whereas Instruments behaves more like a multiband compander and is intended for stronger tone shaping on drums, loops, and individual sounds.
After those parallel sections are combined, the signal reaches a transformer stage modeled on a pair of transformers from an esoteric 1970s processor. Timbral Box also provides input and output metering, gain-reduction metering, automatic gain matching with a separate Analyze function, and Gain Link to maintain the proportional relationship between input and output as you change the drive into the processing chain.

A fully unlocked 14-day trial is available without a payment card. The trial page provides direct macOS and Windows installers without first presenting an account form; the downloads are approximately 437 MB and 175 MB, respectively.
Timbral Box is available in 64-bit VST3, AU, and AAX formats. It requires Windows 10 or later, or macOS 10.15 or later, with native Intel and Apple Silicon support.
