Gooey Audio Talkie formant filter plugin is FREE again at Audio Plugin Deals

Gooey Audio’s Talkie formant filter plugin is available for free again, this time through Audio Plugin Deals.

We featured Talkie earlier this year when Gooey Audio offered it as a free download in January. If you missed that offer, Audio Plugin Deals now has the plugin listed as a limited free download, down from its regular $19.99 value.

Talkie is a simple formant filter that lets you turn harmonically rich sounds into vowel-like tones. It works especially well on sources like saw waves, synth pads, basses, and other material with enough frequency content for the filter to shape.

The plugin runs the input signal through modeled filter shapes based on human vocal resonances. It’s a quick and easy way to move a basic synth tone toward “Ah,” “Oo,” and similar vocal-style sounds without setting up a full vocoder or more complex vocal processor.

I like the simple interface, to be honest. Talkie uses a single main slider for the morphing action, plus five vowel paths called AYA, AE, OA, EO, and IE. You can automate the slider to add movement, sweep between vowel shapes, or use the plugin more subtly to give a static synth part a different tonal profile.

There is also a real-time frequency response display, which isn’t really necessary, but it’s fun to see how the formant filtering changes the spectrum as you move the control.

Anyway, this is definitely not a complex effect with pages of modulation and routing. Talkie is more of a quick creative filter you can drop on a synth lead, transition, pad, bassline, or sound design layer when you want that vowel-like movement without spending much time on setup.
