Bunkervik Spatial Reverb is a free spatial reverb plugin for macOS and Windows, created in collaboration between The NEMUS Project, Missing Ear, and Physical Audio.

Our list isn’t just about reverbs that simulate real-life spaces; some plugins emulate iconic gear, and one of my favourites is Wave Alchemy’s Magic7 (a Bricasti M7 emulation).
Besides the sound, one appeal of a reverb that simulates a real acoustic space is that it takes us to a location that might be otherwise unattainable, like a historic site or a cathedral on the other side of the world.
Bunkervik Spatial Reverb takes us to a 1940s wartime air-raid shelter beneath the streets of Brescia, Northern Italy.
The tunnel reopened in 2016 as a space for the arts.
The historic context of the tunnel might be irrelevant to the effect on your sound, but the typically plain function-over-form design of such shelters isn’t, and it’s just what the developer wanted.
The tunnel is 30 meters (approx) of bare concrete.
The most interesting feature of the plugin is its dynamic microphone positioning. Where most similar reverbs provide a static position, Bunkervik Spatial Reverb allows a real-time walkthrough of the entire space.
The wakthrough is driven by a two-LFO modulation matrix.
I really like the idea of transitioning through this space with a violin or a cello; it takes an already haunting space and sound to another level.
You can also adjust the microphone rotation and overall damping.
Another interesting element of the plugin is the Aura function: a high-frequency, mode-stretching control with adjustable cutoff, boost, and Max Frequency controls.
The plugin comes with a factory preset library crafted by sound designer Matteo Gualeni.
Bunkervik Spatial Reverb comes in AU, VST3, and AAX formats for macOS and Windows.
