Wave Alchemy has released Magic7, a free Bricasti M7 reverb emulation for macOS and Windows.
Wave Alchemy is one of those developers that, while receiving many plaudits, still fly under the radar of many potential users.
My introduction to Wave Alchemy came via the Evolution drum engine for Kontakt (around 2018), which I really enjoyed. It made me wonder what I had been ignorant of over the previous decade or so since Dan Byers founded the company in 2008.
What I found was a developer passionate about creativity and attention to detail in equal measure.
So, when news of a Wave Alchemy freebie comes across the desk, my first instinct is to download it now, before even knowing what it is.
In this case, we have Magic7, a Bricasti M7 reverb emulation. A Bricasti M7 unit will set you back around £4000, give or take a little, which is far from loose change.
I love it when developers who are known for meticulous attention to detail release plugin emulations (especially when they’re free).
While on the subject of free reverb plugins, don’t forget to enter our Mode Audio Airspace giveaway before it’s too late.
The Bricasti M7 is a favourite of audio engineers due to its incredibly natural results.
Whether you’re going for a small, intimate space or a vast hall/cathedral, it produces immersive results that place you sonically in that space with a realism that’s hard to match.
Wave Alchemy has gone beyond capturing the general character of the pricey hardware and painstakingly recreated all 234 original M7 presets.
The Magic7 plugin features eleven reverb types: Ambience, Chambers, Halls 1/2, Nonlin (nonlinear spaces), Plates 1/2, Rooms 1/2, and Spaces 1/2.
Aside from a wide variety of reverb types and presets, Magic7 offers modern, user-friendly controls that lead to fast results.
One highlight in that area is the shaping control via the Smooth and Duck sliders. The Smooth slider reduces the transient volume without altering the dry signal in a way that maintains impact while avoiding the dreaded metallic reverb sound.
The plugin features custom DSP for Ducking, Smoothing, and flux ensemble (stereo spatialization and pitch modulation).
Magic7 is definitely one to get into over the weekend for me! It is available in AU, VST3, and AAX formats for macOS and Windows.

onare they getting DDoS’d, or is the website just so slow?
Numanoid
onIt will not open for me

onMost companies that are featured on here are fairly small and thus can’t handle the sudden inrush of a few thousand new users to their store. Either wait a few hours until the initial bum-rush of BPB dies down, or just keep trying.
Numanoid
onGoes to show that small companies should offer freebies if they can’t handle the inrush ?
alex
onThis is a really good plugin. Thx!
HL
onIs that made with those M7 impulse responses that are all over the web?
AutPen38
onI recently bought Wave Alchemy’s ‘Glow’ and tried out the Triaz drum player and was impressed with both, so this sounds like a treat. Thanks for the heads up.
Alvin
onI compared this to Liquidsonic’s Seventh Heaven (Bricasti M7 emulation).
All I can say is…you get what you pay for!
TenorSaxophone
onSounded good in the demo, is it really that bad?
Brenny C
onIgnore him. It’s not bad at all; it’s good, in fact. Besides, Wave Alchemy’s plug is Free. Liquidsonic’s are $70-300.
Alvin
onExactly – you get what you pay for. Much more control over the reverb sound in the LS version.
alex
onSeventh Heaven is a great-sounding plugin, no question about it. But is it the lite version that is not really tweakable, or the pro version that is, $70 or $300 better than this little plugin, that’s up to everyone to decide for themselves. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t say we shouldn’t buy plugins, but if something is free or affordable it doesn’t mean it’s not good or is necessarily worse than something that costs $$$$. Finally, if one needs more flexibility they can load free Samplicity M7 IRs into the free Convology XT and tweak them all they want.
alex
onNo, it’s a great-sounding reverb, just as good as many and better than most. Besides, “you get what you pay for” hasn’t been true for a very long time and not only in the plugins world.
Brenny C
onSo true, Alex.

onYou a shill? 🤔

onUnusable comment !

onYep.website was a little slow for me too ,but managed to get is downloaded and installed. Sounds great to me ears. I was just wondering if this is a convolution reverb. I noticed many similarities in sound between the Magic 7 and the Bricasti impulse responses by Samplicity.

onI think this is one of the best giveaways of the year, sounds really good on orchestral stuff, very authentic! Thank you Wave Alchemy for this generous gift! My top 5 free plugins are:
1. Valhalla Supermassive – Best plugin Sean Costello made.
2. LUNA – free DAW by Universal Audio, with free Spitfire instruments.
3. Wavea Flite – Sampler Player, quality of sampled instruments are amazing.
4. Vital – Synth, just sounds amazing, check out S1gns Of L1fe free presets.
5. Roland Zenology Lite – professional sounding 80s soundsets for free.
TenorSaxophone
onThanks for this, reminded me that I forgot about the Roland zenology.
Valhalla is practically an industry standard to have at this point, supermassive is used a lot.
Naat
onGreat plugin for sure, sounds very good.

onWave Alchemy is a gangster for making this, thank you!
MrSnowman
onWow – I think I’ve just found my new favourite reverb unit (and I have an embarrassingly large collection of these in my virtual cupboard!). Also worth checking out Wave Alchemy’s free TRIAZ PLAYER – an extensive drum machine with lots of samples and ‘tweakability’ thrown in. Website now seems to be working fine BTW. A big shout out to Waves Alchemy and to BPB (as ever!)

onI was having problems on chrome with being logged out from my cart. Switched to Firefox and everything worked perfectly.
Thank you.

onFor some reason, I have to use a VPN to access the Wave Alchemy site much like I had to the first time, which leads me to believe Wave Alchemy is blocking my location for some reason.

onHow is CPU usage in comparison with let’s say valhalla vintage verb?
The ducking seems like a great feature
alex
onCompared to Valhalla Room it’s 10-20% higher (up to 50% when using the algo that was made for low CPU usage). It’s slightly higher than Convology XT or Halls of Fame with Samplicity M7 IRs and significantly lower than UJAM UFX-Reverb and NI Raum meaning it’s rather easy on the CPU.
Tristan Ishtar
onI love this reverb! It sounds great and has an insane number of room/plate/hall/space options (most of which sound great). You should definitely get this one.
Aleks MZ
onWave Alchemy definitely deserves more recognition. All their products sound great, are well made and tastefully made, in my opinion they are one of the best companies out there, and this gift only reinforces my opinion.
Coopmusic247
onI think they deserve a shout for this one and they’ve got a great instrument bundle with Triaz, BassSynth, etc for £99 and all their other reverbs for £59
Mike
onThis is very nice. Quick to dial in and can be very non-intrusive. Hi/Lo pass filters would be nice, but no complaints here. Thanks to Wave Alchemy for the gift and to BPB for the heads up.
